1. Self-Screening
Decide whether or not you are ready for a pet, and if so, who might be a good match. Consider what you will be doing when your time in Korea is up and be committed to taking your new family member with you to whichever country you will be moving to next. Don't forget to ask yourself...
2. Browse the Adoptable Animals Listings
Once you've made the decision that now is a good time to add a furry family member to your life, that you are committed to keeping this animal for the duration of their lifetime, and have researched what type/breed matches your lifestyle, browse the listings. If you have a specific breed in mind but don't see one listed, post in the General Questions Forum, as another member may know of one for adoption elsewhere. Search also other Korean animal rescue sites.
3. Pet Adoption Application
If you are interested in adopting one of the animals in the listings, download and fill out the Pet Adoption Application (MS Word, English).
Also available:
Send your answers to the animal's current caretaker directly along with your questions about health, temperament, behaviour, adoption fees etc. Some animal caretakers prefer to ask these questions over the telephone. Please understand that the goal of the application is to ensure that both the animal and the person are happily matched, for life.
PLEASE NOTE: Animal Rescue Korea.org is not involved in the screening process of either animals or adopters. It is the responsibility of the caretaker and potential adopter to screen each other thoroughly. For caretakers who would like assistance screening potential adopters, please contact Annie Sauvageau.
4. Meet Your Potential Pal
Visit the animal you're interested in adopting at least one time before making your final decision and taking him/her home. Your pet will be living with you for up to 15~18 years, so take your time making a decision. Choose the best match for both your lifestyle and theirs.
Know also that moving to a new house is a big change for everyone involved. After you adopt, expect an adjustment period of at least a few weeks weeks while everyone is getting to know each other.
5. Adoption Fees
A minimum adoption fee of 50,000 won (for cats and dogs) is required. This fee may be higher if spay/neuter surgery has already been performed and/or vaccinations are up-to-date. Fees help to reimburse a fraction of rescue costs and are paid directly to the animal caregiver or shelter, not through ARK.

Other ways to help:
If you like sharing your life with a furry friend but are not 110% sure of what you will be doing when your time in Korea is up, please don't adopt. Forsaking your companion in a few months' time means heartbreak for everyone. There are many other ways to help animals in need. Please visit other sections of this website and consider fostering, volunteering, or fundraising for shelters.
