BERNIE HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!!!!!
*Update* February 6, 2013. He just had his first of 5 injections and he was a little trooper. He weighs 1.6 kilograms and the vet says he is very healthy.

Hi everyone this is Bernie. Bernie is a special little boy because he is the only baby that lived out of a litter of 4 puppies. I rescued his mom (his mom Mommy, also listed on here) his sister and him from a bad situation where the mother dogs owners threw her out on the street just days before she was supposed to give birth. The mother was taken in by a kind lady who owned a fruit market in Boeun and she had her puppies there. The first two puppies died because the mother was very inexperienced and cut the cord too close. It's very sad that that happened but it is also common with new mothers. The other two puppies were doing ok when my boyfriend and I picked them up but we found that Bernie was severely constipated and he cried THE WHOLE WAY home. Poor little man. The other little girl had a problem with her stomach not being fully developed so we lost her a few days after we got her here. It was really sad and I was really scared we were going to lose Bernie too because his stomach was a little iffy too. Well after about a week of watching over Bernie and his mother my boyfriend pointed out to me that the mother's eye looked very swollen so we took her to the vet and he told us she needed emergency surgery on her eye. So we got the surgery done but that also meant that she couldn't care for little Bernie so I became his surrogate mom and bottle fed him up until he was about 4 weeks. Luckily I have a really understanding school and they let me keep Bernie with me in my classroom so during my breaks at school I could just feed him and he went back to sleep. He will be 7 weeks on Wednesday and ready for his first injection. I have to say that he is such a great little guy and I would love to keep him but I already have two dogs and a very small apartment. But he is very smart. Everything that he has learned how to do so far he either figured it out for himself or he has watched the bigger dogs. So far he is learning to go potty on the pee pads. He does have a few accidents here and there but if you keep on him and make sure he goes on the pad he will pick up house training very quickly. He also learned to drink from a water bottle. At first it was too high for him but then he figured out how to boost himself up by standing on the food dish and now he can drink from it. Like I said he is very bright.

As far as what breed he is all we know is that he is half shih tzu. His mother is a pure bred shih tzu but the vet took one look at him and said his father is not a shih tzu. So your guess is as good as mine.

Whoever decides to adopt this little man needs to be someone who can spend a lot of time with him because he is a baby and will need lots of love and attention. Right now he has his mom and my male to spend time with him while I am gone and they are teaching him and caring for him. They are taking the place of mother and father and siblings for him. Being an only puppy in a litter is very difficult for a puppy because they don't learn the things brothers and sisters teach each other like how to play for instance. Luckily my dog Stanley is still a puppy himself so he loves playing with him.
