Description:

December 1: Brody has been adopted! :) You've won me over, Sweetie!

November 10: Brody's brother, Quint is dealing with some health issues (liver problems) so until he is better, his adoption is on hold.

UPDATE: September 7: Brody and Quint, and the rest of their family, have spent the last week settling into their new home. As a "welcome to your new home gift" I bought them a cat tree. Take a look at the pictures below and you'll see that they, along with their foster brother, Gray, are already enjoying it! :)

July 15, 2012. I am the new foster mom for Brody and Quint. The previous foster parents said that to know them is to love them and I absolutely agree!! After only one day with them, I have fallen hopelessly in love. They are just so sweet, tender-hearted and affectionate. They love each other so much and I can't help but feel love for them when I see them interacting. Such special kitties!

*6/22- My husband and I and our two cats have fallen in love with Quint and Brody. How I wish we could just keep them! Quint and Brody are so sweet, tender, and endearing. They are people loving cats. To know them is to love them. We are hoping and praying they get adopted soon. Whoever adopts one (or even better, BOTH) will indeed be blessed with a loving and affectionate companion. Thank you.

Brody and her brother Quint were strays who were going to be euthanized, but fortunately found a foster mom who loved them to pieces for a few weeks. Their foster mom had to return to America so they moved to another lovely foster home where they were loved to bits. That family have to leave so now they are in their 3rd foster home with me.

Brody has a very sweet, playful temperament. She is very social and loves to be with people. Her brother is the same. She enjoys belly rubs, crawling up on your lap while you're reading, and sleeping on your back at night. She plays very gently with hands- no biting or rough play. She loves ping-pong balls- especially when you dump a bunch of them on the floor in the bathroom! She is a sweetie pie. Ideally Brody and Quint would be adopted together- if you saw how tenderly they clean each other and how they cuddle you would understand why!

Please consider this sweet girl. She is a darling, darling little cat.

I miss them so much! I've been checking in on them every day. Whoever takes them in is going to be very happy that they ended up with such sweet kitties.

Amanda24601's picture

Hey you! I was just uploading some videos! Yeah, we've already fallen in love. They are awesome little cats!

marlajoy's picture

If no one has said adopted/fostered them by the time you are ready to leave and if you are willing to make the trip down to Jindo where I currently live, I would be happy to foster them. I currently have a kitten that I found stray and a dog that I adopted from this site. Do you think they'd be ok with a dog?

Amanda24601's picture

Hi marlajoy! Yes, in that case we would ABSOLUTELY bring them down to you. We would do anything for these cats, we love them so so much. Yes, I think they would be ok with a dog. It might take them a few days, but our big cats really freaked them out the for first couple of days and now their bestest buddies. They play, cuddle and clean each other all day long. Kittens are very adaptable. Thanks sooooo much! You don't even know the peace of mind you just gave me. I've been worrying about this every day since their views got around 200 and no one showed interest. I knew that did not bode well.

marlajoy's picture

I'm so happy I brought you some peace! I would be delighted to add them to my family! I am certain they would love my dog. She is a sweetheart and my kitten adores her. You are welcome to bring them down any time that works for you. 061-544-8963. Here's a picture of my babies, Alexis and Gray!

Amanda24601's picture

Oh, you cannot even imagine! After seeing that pic I am certain they would love her too. They do loooove to cuddle. I can't wait to tell my husband. He'll be thankful you brought me some peace of mind too- I think I've been making him a wee bit crazy : ) We will be in touch! Thanks again!

Congrats!
To both of you!

Hey, I'm considering Quint and Brody (both are adorable.) but I don't know if I can have cats in my new apartment, if the landlady/lord will allow it. I'm moving July 25th too. But if I can, I'd love to take both of them.

Amanda24601's picture

Hi k-h-o! That's great news! Our last day in our apartment before we leave Korea is July 27th, so we would have to work out a pick up either this weekend or the next unless you are available during the week. But I'm getting ahead of myself- is there a way you can find out soon if they would be allowed in your new place? Incidentally, they are very well behaved and have no bad habits like chewing cords, scratching, or other destructive activities/habits! Where are you located by the way?

k-h-o's picture

I got both of your messages and I know what kind of situation you're in leaving and all. I've been trying to catch my co-teacher all week to talk to the landlady/lord (I don't really know...) and that has turned into quite a struggle. I hope to know by the end of the day the answer to this massive question, but if anything, I will know by Friday. I hope.

I am located in Daegu and I was wondering if I do happen to adopt the pair, if anything is coming with them, such as a litter box.

Amanda24601's picture

Ok, sounds great! Thanks for understanding the situation! Brody and Quint have been using our cats' litter boxes- we have one box for each of our two cats, so we do need to hang on to those. We did just get Brody and Quint their first series of vaccinations last weekend as well as a treatment each of Revolution. I think I forgot to update that on their profiles. We could send you home with a new bag of the food they're used to eating (Royal Canin kitten- it costs about 26,000) if that sounds ok, as well as their toys. That's about all we can afford to do to sweeten the deal- kitten season was very busy this year and has put quite a strain on our resources!

k-h-o's picture

Okay awesome! I talked to the guy who'll talk to the landlady and he said he thinks it'll be all right but he still will check for me. Thanks for telling me about their vaccinations and the litter box. I'll want to find one before I get them. (Does homeplus sell litter?) The food for them would be amazing! I'll take anything off your hands that you don't want, not to sound greedy or anything.

I'm still waiting on the reply from the landlady and I'm praying and hoping that I'll be able to tell you Friday.

Amanda24601's picture

Oh yay! We'll be praying this works out too!!! Yes, Homeplus sells litter, so does EMart. We bought our litter boxes at the vet, you may want to take a look at a vet's office for those and other accessories. Have you bought a carrier already? We actually have a small soft sided one that our cats don't fit in if you wanted to take that too. The vet has also started a health record booklet for each of them. If you have trouble locating a litter box for some reason, our vet does sell a few different styles. We will be standing by for the good news!!!

k-h-o's picture

It looks like I've been coerced into taking in the kitties without my landlady's knowledge. But all my co-teachers say it's fine and there should be no problems and treating my concerns about this with an air of "It's all right, we'll persuade her if she doesn't like it." So...it looks like I'll be taking them! I still want them and there's no fees involved for keeping kittens, so yeah. It's looking good. My new place is a a subway stop away from homeplus, so this sounds very good. I have no bought a carrier yet, and if you're willing to give me that... I can't thank you enough! There's two pet shops in my little town right now and I'll look and see if they have litter boxes.

How do you want to meet? I can't meet tomorrow or during the week (teacher and all...) What about next weekend? The 21st?

Amanda24601's picture

Hey k-h-o,
Ok. I would have a lot more peace of mind if you knew for sure about the landlady mostly because I have seen cats show up on ARK again after being adopted by people who apparently did not confirm that pets were allowed in their buildings. Do you have a plan B (other than re-posting them on ARK) should this happen? Your co-teachers could not just call the landlord for you? Korea is unfortunately not a cat-friendly country, so this situation makes me a bit nervous... What do you think?

k-h-o's picture

I don't have a plan B... and my co-teachers kind of refused to call. I would have more peace of mind as well. As far as I know they sat by my desk for a half hour talking about it and what they said exactly was. "You can get the kittens. Don't tell the landlady. After one month, my administrator will call and persuade her to let you keep the kittens if she says no. It's unlikely she'll say no." I'm really not sure what to do with that. There is an animal shelter run by foreigners called KAPS a not more than a subway stop more from my apartment. If anything goes horribly wrong, I know I can take them their and stay with them in the evenings until they're adopted. I'll probably end up paying for vaccinations while the kittens are there until they find a home where they allow kittens.

Amanda24601's picture

Hi k-h-o,
I am so sorry, but I don't think this is going to work out : ( I cannot fathom the thought of Brody and Quint being placed in a shelter. I would need to know for certain that your landlady says pets are ok. We just love them far too much to take any chances. So sorry. Really though, you co-workers should/could have been more help. If they had called her they might have given you an affirmative and everything would be set, but they came up with a scheme that makes me very nervous.

Amanda24601's picture

They could call right now and find out for you. It would take all of two minutes.

k-h-o's picture

They said if they called beforehand then the landlady will say no. However, if I already have the kittens when I move in, or adopt kittens after I already live there, then the landlady can't say anything. The landlady won't say anything unless other tenants complain. As far as I know, there are only one or two other people living in the complex I will be living in because it is a small place. They also are saying if the landlady says no, then I'll never be able to keep a pet. However, if I don't ask, then I'll be able to keep them. They keep telling me stories how they own kittens which they got for free and have no problems in their respective places.

I understand you concerns about the shelter. I won't take them there. It was a quick idea... I just don't know what to do. I don't think it'll work out either.

Amanda24601's picture

Since it has come down to the last day, we really cannot wait any longer. The foster mom we have lined up in Mokpo has been wondering if they are coming or not, and since we did not confirm the adoption we will go ahead and bring them to Mokpo tomorrow. Sorry this did not work out.

k-h-o's picture

It's fine. I understand.

Amanda24601's picture

Hey, so sorry, really : ( Hopefully you can get a positive answer from your landlady though- there are certainly lots of kitties who could use your help. Hope you can give someone else a home soon : )

k-h-o's picture

I am really sorry too. I wish there wasn't this vagueness going on around Korea about adopting animals. Thank you for all your help and all your kindness.

Amanda24601's picture

No worries! Right, the concept of animals as intelligent, valuable, and meaningful companions or family members is certainly a novel one here. I have seen people react in the most bizarre ways to cats and dogs... kittens and puppies even. When workers come in to fix our internet, heating... they react to our cats the way I would react if someone had a brown bear in their living room! Actually I would probably try to cuddle it, so maybe that's not a good example, but I think you know what I mean!

k-h-o's picture

I do! My students are that way with...well, anything, really. I tried to give them candy and they ran away screaming as if it were some disease. I contacted a local shelter and they gave me some advice. So, I'll wait a month after I've lived there and then write a letter to the landlady saying that the kittens will be litter trained, cleaned everyday (or twice a day), and have all vaccinations up-to-date, and everything of that will convince them that the kittens will be no bother at all and will not hinder the quality of the apartment. If it were in English, it wouldn't be a problem for me (I write really convincing essays), but the Korean and culture barrier is killing me.

Thanks again for your help. I hope your trip goes well. Good luck moving!

Are you trying to adopt Brody and Quint out together?

marlajoy's picture

Ideally, yes, but for the right set of circumstances, I would be willing to separate them. Are you interested?

MGE's picture

They are so cute! Unfortunately I can only adopt one kitten and I think that these two should stay together. I hope that they find a good home soon!

I LOVE the photos of your menagerie all loving each other!! What special little fuzzballs!

Amanda24601's picture

Hey! Sorry it has been so long!! We've been sooooo busy traveling West to East and North to South. We have had very little down time. This has been one exhausting vacation! Anyhow, I finally checked my email and saw these updates on Brody and Quint- how cute!!! What a great cat tree! I wish we could have found one that big! Brody and Quint look very, very happy : ) What a happy home they are in- full of friends and fun things to do! Hope all is well! Take care all!!!

marlajoy's picture

All is definitely well! Thanks, Amanda! Yes, I think all my animals are a pretty happy, loving bunch! :) How did I get so lucky?!

marlajoy's picture

Brody is only 6 months old but she already makes a wonderful foster cat mommy to my newly rescued little one, Meadow :)

Family love, starring Brody, Quint, Meadow and Alexis!! :)

marlajoy's picture

Quint, Brody and I (Quint especially) have been through a whole lot in the last month and, at this point, there is no way I could consider letting anyone else adopt them. If we make it through this, they will have more than earned a forever home! You have a home with me for the rest of your lives, my sweet angels. :)

dawnmarie's picture

Awwww!! I'm so happy they found a forever home!! They were only in my home for a couple of weeks, but I sure do love those two. Congrats Quint and Brody!

marlajoy's picture

Then please send out a few prayers for Quint. He's really struggling with a very serious health problem and I'm not sure if he can pull through.

dawnmarie's picture

Oh no!!! What's happening? Do you mind sharing?

marlajoy's picture

He's struggling with liver and kidney failure. He's been tested for all sorts of diseases and they've all come back negative. The vet isn't sure of the cause and I am no longer willing to put him through any more invasive testing. I'm trying to keep him comfortable and feeling loved and I'm really praying for a miracle.

Amanda24601's picture

Oh no! I was so happy until I started reading about Quint's health problems! He will definitely be in our prayers. Is the vet ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE it is not just a UTI?? The symptoms are very similar, and I don't know if it has been your experience with vets, but in our experience in Korea, vets (and people doctors!) tend to imagine that you are dealing with the worst case scenario until proven otherwise. Our vet has caused us loads of stress and worrying over things that turned out to be no worse than mild constipation and colds in some of our fosters. Quint is way too young for kidney and liver failure, unless he ate something toxic. Also, Quint had a pretty bad UTI when he was about 8 wks old, perhaps it is a misdiagnosed UTI?? You may want to mention his previous UTI to the vet. Perhaps he is just prone? I would be absolutely blown away if it was liver and kidney failure in such a young cat that is eating such a healthy diet.

marlajoy's picture

It's very clear from his blood work and his yellow skin that he is in liver failure and his kidneys are hugely swollen. I doubt that a UTI would be the cause of all this. I will mention it to the vet though.

Amanda24601's picture

Oh my. Poor little guy... I cannot pretend that this is not some sad news. I love that little cat so much and think about him frequently as Ovid, looks so much like him and has such a similar personality. Just an absolute sweetheart. They were good buddies too : ) Derek and I will definitely be praying for him. Thank you for everything you have done and are doing for him. He is blessed to be in such a loving environment with such a wonderful family.

I'll just say a little prayer for him: Lord, we pray for a miracle for little Quint; that his kidneys and liver will be healed and return to normal; that the swelling will go down and his organs will function like new. Please help him make a full recovery. Amen.

marlajoy's picture

Thank you. That means a lot to know that I am not the only one praying for him. I fully believe that miracles happen and I'm really hoping for a big one for this sweet, sweet boy.
