Description:

September 24th: Clyde is as happy as ever, waiting patiently for that special someone to take him home forever. His fur is starting to grow back from his early summer shave, and he is becoming the shaggy dog I fell in love with once again. He had a really fun time playing at the little park near our apartment this weekend with his foster brother and sister. Clyde is such a super guy, I want him to find a super family to match!

September 3rd: Clyde has come so far in the past two months. He is no longer afraid to walk far distances from the house, he is housebroken, and he stellar on his leash. If I could adopt Clyde, I would in a heart beat. He is more well behaved/relaxed/well adjusted than either one of my two dogs, and I am confident he would fit seamlessly into any family situation. All Clyde asks is that you take him for a walk every day, and let him hang out next to you on the couch. He is such a low maintenance and laid back dog, sometimes I can't believe he lived at the shelter for almost two years. He really deserves a great family who will love him to pieces for the rest of his life. If you think you fit the bill, please contact me at [email protected].

July 26th: Clyde is slowly (but surely!) learning how to play! And, this smart boy has also mastered 'sit'. :)

July 10th: I'm am thrilled to announce that Clyde was taken into foster care this weekend! Yay, Clyde!

June 16th: Clyde is as wonderful as ever, but still waiting for that lucky someone to notice what an amazing dog he is. Clyde had a short walk (it's too hot to go far these days!) with his pal Jasper and enjoyed the company of the volunteers today. Clyde is an understanding and patient guy. He has been waiting so long and deserves his chance at happiness. Please consider this awesome dog!~

May 27th: Clyde is still waiting, poor guy. His spirits are high and he's happy as ever...imagine what a ray of sunshine this guy would be if he had is own family?!

May 13th: I don't think Clyde has ever met another dog he didn't like. Here is a video of Clyde on a nice walk with his new buddy, Jasper.

May 4th: Clyde and his buddy Jackson went for a nice sunny walk today. Clyde loves walking and is good on his leash, but what he loves MOST of all is cuddling and giving kisses! If you are looking for a laid-back dude who is great with everyone, then look no further because Clyde is your dog!

April 28th: I have to say, it's getting really surprising that there has been no interest in this awesome dog! Please consider making the BEST decision of your life, and giving this gentleman the home he deserves! :)

April 19th: Clyde is simply AMAZING!!! ADOPT HIM!!!!!!

April 1st: Good news, everyone! Clyde is heart worm NEGATIVE!! Yay!! This dog is practically perfect; you would be crazy not to foster or adopt him! He had a nice long walk today and socialized with some other dogs. He is so friendly and calm he could fit into almost any home. Please consider this special dog!

March 8th: I can't believe Clyde is STILL at the shelter! He is seriously the sweetest guy around. Please consider fostering this awesome dog: he loves people, is good with other dogs, and really needs a companion. Clyde is your guy!

Description:

Clyde is just as amazing in foster care as he was at the shelter. Initially after 'setting him loose' inside our apartment we became a little worried because he attempted to lift his leg on everything in sight! Oh Clyde. No. After a nice long walk, he calmed down a bit and went to sleep immediately upon returning to his crate, while we feverishly planned and plotted ways we could break him of this awful habit. Lucky for us, he hasn't tried it since. After watching him like a hawk and/or penning him for the past three days without incident, we can breathe a sigh of relief: he has shown no interest in going to the bathroom anywhere but outside. Smart boy.

Clyde is patient, quiet, and affectionate without being demanding. As I type, he is snuggled comfortably in his doggy bed, a small step up from the patch of dirt he's used to sleeping on. He's had a haircut and been to the vet, and unfortunately poor Clyde has a terrible ear mite infestation. That's the worst of it though, since he's tested negative for heartworm and will be getting his booster shots tomorrow. In the meantime he is on antibiotics for his mites and I'll have to clean his ears with a special ointment everyday. He doesn't like it, but he tolerates me doing it and I'm sure he'll feel much better soon. Otherwise, he's a completely healthy boy!

Clyde enjoys going outside for walks and gets very excited when I get his harness. He is slow and steady though, so if you're looking for a marathoner, he certainly isn't it. Clyde likes to take his time --- methodically sniffing each and every little thing he finds interesting. He never pulls on the leash, but is reluctant to walk anywhere overly noisy or busy with cars as he is afraid of them. Clyde absolutely loves people and kids, and will walk up to anyone hoping for a pat on the head. He is a very polite young man (the vet thinks he's about 3 years old) and never makes a peep. He stays in his crate while we are at work and at night, and he is content to curl up and sleep like a champion for hours.

Clyde loves food and is a good eater. We haven't had any problems transitioning him to dry food, as often is the case with shelter dogs. He loves treats, kibble, and just about anything he deems edible. Inside he is calm and relaxed, and perfectly content to laze around and enjoy the day with you. He is almost too good to be true!

If you are interested in adopting the most gentlemanly of canines, then look no further, because here he is!

Clyde is awesome! Within the first minute of meeting him, you can see how he'd make a wonderful furry family member! I walked him today, which he was SUPER happy about! His pen-mate is a dog that is quite heavy on his resource-guarding, but Clyde took it all in stride. He never responded in like and seemed to have a natural ability to read a situation; he definitely has that famous schnauzer intelligence! He doesn't know his own name, which would allow you to easily change it to any name you choose! Clyde seemed happier when he was around other dogs. He walked with 2 other dogs, both cocker spaniels, and when we were with them, he kept pace and was full of positive energy. When we walked away, however, he kept turning back to look at them and whined a bit (not much though). For a schnauzer, Clyde is much more compact with shorter legs and a longer body, and he's what you'd call "stocky", so he's definitely in need of more exercise, but he's not overweight. On a leash, Clyde is very eager, so he'll certainly need training to walk a bit nicer, but he went right along with direction changes and "leave it" commands. With this training, he will be the perfect gentleman he almost already is. One thing to point out was that he "talked the talk" with 2 other, bigger dogs. I don't know him well enough to know if he'd act on anything, but his growl was enough to make me move away from the situation and be somewhat concerned. He seemed much better-suited to dogs of similar or smaller size, and did not display any aggression whatsoever to small-medium and small dogs. If I had to guess, I'd say he was just making sure the 2 other dogs knew he wasn't a push-over, as both times he did it, he immediately turned around and pawed at me, wanting me to pick him up and protect him. Shelters are tough places, and he's definitely smart enough to know that. I'd be confident in saying that he'll make a perfect addition to a home that doesn't have an overly dominant dog, as Clyde seems to know who he is and who he wants to be, and while I don't think he needs to be an alpha dog, he's not one to be picked on. He's super sturdy and very people-oriented, so a home with children who want a great playmate would be AWESOME! Plus, he has absolutely ZERO food aggression, so you wouldn't have to worry about a child taking his food away. Overall, Clyde has excellent potential and really does need to get out of the shelter!

Clyde is fine with big dogs and small dogs. He spent some time with a large Golden Lab today and was very happy and relaxed.

Clyde is such a wonderful young man. He is so gentle, well-behaved and affectionate! He really loves to go for walks, and sniffing is his passion. I think Clyde would be great in a home with or without other dogs, with or without children --- basically he would do well in any circumstance. He is such a great dog!

Things I love about Clyde:
1. He is friendly towards everyone and everything
2. He isn't a picky eater
3. He doesn't bark when we leave him home alone
4. He is gentle
5. He is calm
6. He is as lazy as I am, but always up for a walk
7. He isn't needy
8. He gets as excited about food as I do
9. He makes hilarious noises after he uses the bathroom
10. He is very patient with my other dogs
11. He is happy all the time
12. He walks nicely on his leash
13. He loves to sleep
14. His tail is always wagging

And last but not least:

15. He spent nearly two years at a shelter where he rarely saw people, was caged outside 24/7, was never properly exercised or nourished, and yet he is still one of the kindest, gentlest souls I have ever met in a canine. (Or person, for that matter.) Clyde is the reason I love dogs.

corpsgirl's picture

He is so beautiful, Allison. You've posted some wonderful photos and videos. Congratulations on Clyde now being heartworm free. I hope he'll find his forever companion(s) soon.

allisondyoung's picture

Thank you, corpsgirl! But Clyde never had heartworm. (I'm sorry if I made it sound as though he'd gone through the treatment or something?) He's always been a heartworm-free, healthy boy!

Nick stan's picture

Clyde is so cute! I am sending you an email about him now!

allisondyoung's picture

Here are some recent videos of Clyde being absolutely adorable. In this first video, you can see how he attempts to master the art of chasing his own tail, but hasn't quite gotten the hang of it yet:

But don't worry! He is okay:

Clyde loves being outside and playing with his foster siblings, even though it is sometimes hard for him to keep up with them! ;)

allisondyoung's picture

After waiting for nearly two years at Asan Shelter, Clyde has been adopted after only 3 months in foster care. Please consider helping a dog in need by becoming a foster parent and increasing their chances of adoption. Clyde now lives with his new dad and doggy brother, Jax, and is a very happy guy. Thank you for being such a good boy, Clyde. I love you so much.

allisondyoung's picture

Saying goodbye to this boy was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Getting updates from his new family makes it all worth it! Look how happy he is! :)
