Adopted Feb 1, 2012, passed away May 23, 2012. Heartworms suck!

We received word today that lil Gryffi, aka Wesito, passed away today. His mom's vet thinks it is because of heartworms. When he was adopted my vet was 99% sure he only had stage one heart worms because he did not exhibit any of the classic symptoms beyond stage one. In fact, he didnt show any outward stage of heartworms, the only way we knew was thru a blood test.

Please keep this in mind in the future.

Thank you to his mom for providing such a loving and caring home for him, Wesito had a lot of bumps in the road but he finally found a home. Now he is forever home.

Wesito is a great lil companion

***Health status/ vaccinations : This boy came out of KAPS the first of Sept. He literally fought his way out...see his rescue story below...and since then he has been fighting years of neglect to get healthy again. Please dont let this deter you from considering adopting him. He is a lovely boy and has the potential to get all the way better. But he needs you to see him for his possiblity, not his faults.

*Skin infection, ear infection: ** healed**
*Urinary tract infection and enlarged prostate: **healed**
*luxating patellas, stage 3 possibly 4. see update below
*heartworms, stage 1, no clinical signs. He is on preventatives to kill any new/baby heartworms.
*Dental scaling needed.

***Behaviour/Personality : Wesito is a survivor and fighter. He hasnt been given a fair shake in life, but he is making the most of it. He really likes to be the center of attention. He gets along with other animals, but he prefers to be the only one getting the pampering.

Wesito is a bed cuddler and will keep you warm on these coming winter days. He is super small so you can transport him easily anywhere, and can just about fit in your pocket.

He isnt a big eater, and when we go to work he doesnt eat his goodbye treat right away. He saves it until we get home! Not only that he is so happy when you come home that he plays with his saved-goodbye-treat by tossing it up in the air and dancing. Eventually, the 15 min "your home" celebration dies down and he eats it. But imagine a dog so happy to see you that he celebrates before chowing down!

Wesito absolutely loves to go! He cant walk much because of his patellas, but he sure does like to ride. Dont have a car? No problem attach a basket to your bike and he is ready

Looking for a pocket size pal? Wesito will be that for eternity!

***Rescue story : KAPS rescued him and he fought for his chance to be fostered. Often times when I am at KAPS piddling around I will take out several pups and let them wander in the courtyard. Wesito was one of them. He loved being outside! Well it was time to leave but before going home I had to walk to the cat house with the manager for something. The manager said to leave the pups out, Wesito being one of them. as they were behind a large wooden fence and was quite safe.

As we moseied along, around the corner we here a commotion; Wesito had slinked thru the less than 6 inch gap under the fence and was rounding the corner at full speed towards me! So he followed us to the cat house. Well when we left I went to get in the car to leave. The manager was carrying Wesito back to the dog shelter, when she was half way back she put him down in order for him to follow her back to the shelter. Did he? NO! He came running to me and trying to get in the car After him fighting so hard to find someone to give him a second chance I couldnt just leave him there. So the next week when his time was up, I pulled him out of the shelter for foster care. We didnt even have a foster for him, and we still need one...but I couldnt turn him away after all he had done to ask for a second chance.

***Adoption fee : His adoption fee right now is 150,000krw. This covers the vetting he has had.

~~I fought my way out of the shelter, so that one day I could find you. ~~

Shelter Name: KAPS: Daegu

A few weeks ago we had a scare. We found out that Wesito has a high stage 3 or low stage 4 luxating patellas. We discovered this after taking him on an 1.5 hour walk. Afterwards he hopped around in pain holding one of his back legs up constantly. Our vet was hopeful that because of his size he could still live a normal life with a few adjustments...but we still needed to monitor his progress as this diagnosis can be a death sentence for many dogs.

With little hope we went home with inflammation meds, and a bag of Royal Canin Moblity food. Our strict vet orders are that
1. He should not walk up or down stairs.
2. He should not go for more than 30 min walks at a time.
3. He should not jump up or down off of things.
4. He should not stand upright, putting all the pressure on his back legs.

All of these orders have been easy enough to carry out esp considering how small this little guy is. Plus Winnie had a similar diagnosis and her foster home followed the same regiment. Today she is happily the jewel of this family's life: http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/forums/showthread.php?t=5894&highlight=...

A few weeks later I am happy to report, we will not have to put Wesito to sleep as he has completely recovered, and is walking normal again!

He is doing great now, and he is looking for his forever family. He is completely pocket size, quite a lover, and a gentle spirit please consider making him part of your future!
