The most sweat, gentle and quiet dog needs a foster / adoptive family urgently!

Special needs: blind, diabetes(insulin shots twice a day, 8am and 8pm)

About 5 years old, 18kg (small husky)

Kara came to the city pound last Summer (Aug 2013). She was chained up outside in hot summer as they did not have inside kennel for bigger dogs at that time. She seemed to be sad and exhausted from hot weather. One of his ears seemed be got bitten by another dog.

EFL volunteers brought Kara to the vet where we found that she does not see much. She seems to see little with day light and almost non at night. She was almost adopted once before we found out that she has diabetes which resulted in blindness.
She currently needs insulin shots twice a day for diabetes (10 min after breakfast and 10 min after dinner). Due to her special needs, nobody has been interested in adopting / fostering Kara. She had been at EFL shelter. However, since EFL lost the manager who used to take care insulin shots, Kara was moved to boarding place last month. However, due to his special needs, Kara is getting kicked out there soon!!!!!

Even with her vision loss, she did not lose her love towards people. She is a calm, gentle and quiet dog. She knows basic commands (sit, wait and paws – although she may needs reminder and translation to Korean). Due to her blindness, she sometimes bangs herself to the fence of her cage. However, she never gives up on coming up to the fence whenever she hears people. She just wants to get petted and loved. Yes, this is why we cannot give up on her. She needs people’s care and love. She has lots of love to share.

She walks well on leash. She bangs on stuff in new environment. However, after 2 -3 times of repetition, she learns her surroundings pretty well.

We are desperately looking for foster home for this beautiful girl. Insulin shots, medical fees(need to use a specific vet in Ilsan) and special kibbles will be provided by EFL. Education on how to provide insulin shots will be provided. It is not difficult at all!

We need trustful / special person who would not forget to give him insulin shots on time.

As in humans, diabetes in dogs is very often diet related. There is a lot of research to show that a raw food diet can completely eliminate the need for insulin. Just something to look into. :)

Thank you marlajoy, we will look it up. If he becomes in a way that he only needs one insulin shot or none, that would be great. Then, we can look into international adoption.

Have you contacted any of the NA husky rescue groups to see if they will take her?

I spoken to Dr. Choi and he wishes to know where Kara is now. He can treat her at his clinic in Kangnam.
