Description:

BOBBY HAS BEEN ADOPTED! He was picked up by his new mum last weekend and it was love at first sight from both sides! We wish him and Cailin the best for the future we are going to miss him soooooo much!

Bobby has mastered toilet training! Read to find out more about Bobby the super dog!

UPDATE - 6th August - We are back from our vacation with Bobby but any adoption applications will not be continued until Sunday 11th as the KAPS coordinators are away. If you are interested please email us and we will respond but unfortunately can not process any applications.

We started fostering Bobby, a gorgeous, fun-loving, intelligent and super cute beagle puppy from the KAPS shelter in Daegu on June 2nd. The vet has aged him at 6 months but he seemed smaller and younger than that. We initially guessed 4 months when we picked him up.

Personality - Bobby is intelligent, adorable, playful and once he gets to know you he is an affectionate little chap. He is an energetic dog who loves nothing better than going for a walk, rolling around in the grass (see slide video below!) or practicing obedience training in return for delicious treats!

Toilet training - This is coming along well. He hasn't pooped indoors for over a month and he's totally got the hang of peeing outside too! We've had a couple of accidents but these have happened in his crate whilst we've been out. If we're home we take him outside every couple of hours or he stands at the door if he needs the toilet, we're very proud of him!

Crate training - Bobby has responded well to crate training! Because he was a shelter dog he was a little nervous about being left alone at first, but adapted really fast and can now spend up to 4 hours in the crate. He also rarely barks in the crate (or in the apartment) anymore. We have filmed him when we have left him crated to see if he makes noise whist we are away but he doesn't, he just chills out and sleeps.

Obedience training - Beagles have a reputation for being a stubborn breed to train, but despite this Bobby is doing really well! He is a very smart little dog who has responded to our efforts and understands SIT, STAY, COME, DOWN and LIE - quite a lot for only 4 weeks of training! He initially had an issue with separation anxiety but within a few days of training he was absolutely fine with that too. Because he is smart and a beagle, training needs to be an ongoing process. Therefore, Bobby will need owners who are committed to a consistent approach to training, to enable him to develop successfully into a well behaved bundle of fun.

Leash training - Because he is a beagle Bobby must be leashed when walking, because this breed has a tendency to follow their nose and chase scents. We have found that during some training sessions in the park it's fine to drop his leash because he knows us and is focused on the task in hand, this is however an exception to the norm. We are currently leash training him and this (like all his training!) is going well.

Behaviour - Because he's a puppy he is currently teething and at first we had problems with playful nipping and possessiveness. These are common puppy issues which have improved with consistent training. Beagles are also well known for their bark! Bobby only usually barks when he gets excited whilst playing outside with other dogs, he doesn't bark aggressively and rarely barks in the apartment.

Vaccines - He tested negative for distemper, parvo and heartworm and is up to date with all vaccinations (including rabies and influenza).

Great with dogs and children - Bobby LOVES meeting other dogs on our walks! He will often bark hello at them and try to play with them. He is also fine with children, who often come over to pet him. Only last week a toddler wandered over and was quite rough with prodding and trying to pull Bobby's ears, but Bobby just lay down and showed no signs of aggression.

Beagles need a lot of love, time and care but they give a lot back in return, already Bobby is showing us what a great companion he will be. Bobby deserves a loving stable FOREVER family who will be committed to his training/developmental needs and giving him the stability and effection he craves.

If you think you can give Bobby the beautiful beagle the home he deserves, or if you have any questions please contact us.

Nat and Ash.
