Adopted! 11.22:
We're so very happy to say that One of us found her lifetime friend and companion, and is now living in Gwangjoo where there is plenty of fresh air, trees, sunshine, and happiness. One of us is now a Canadian citizen, or will be eventually, when she and her new owner finally depart from Korea. Thank you for everyone's support. This is one dog who got a golden ticket because of people who care. I know there are lots of dogs and cats and creatures of every kind who need our help. After seeing the response to one of us just from this one website, I'm sure that there are an equivalent number of loving humans to help our animal friends. Thank you to you all. One love, one earth, and we are all members of the animal family.

Update November 11.15:
We had a serous inquiry who ended up adopting a dog from a shelter instead. That was just a few days ago. Unfortunately, our circumstance has now changed and we are looking for immediate foster care or adoption. Can someone love this dog and care for her like we have? No expense has been spared on this dog. She has had the best possible care since we rescued her -- but now someone else has to pick up where we, unfortunately, have to leave off. If you are serious about adoption or just capable of foster care, you are welcome to contact me. Please hurry.

Update 11.05:
We're happy to say that many kind, wonderful people are showing an interest in one of us. But, so far, the only serious inquiry hoped to pick her up after Christmas, and since there's no guarantee we'll be able to stay here that long, we'd like to find her a loving home as soon as possible. Of course, we'll donate the adoption fee to the the shelter or sanctuary of your choice. If you're looking for a friend, this little dog will love you and make you smile every day.

Original Posting:
This lovely dog is a mix papillon-spitz (we are pretty sure). She is around three and a half years old (we are pretty sure). She is totally up to date with all of her vaccinations and has had a monthly visit to the vet to keep her up to date. She is healthy, and well fed. Her name is "one of us".
She can sit, shake hands, and stay. She will go to her bed or crate when asked, and she politely waits at doors before entering or leaving, so that I and my wife can go out first. A simple "okay" is the release command. She loves a crunchy treat when she does a good job. Of course, if the owner is not confident and assertive... Dogs are dogs, you know. And "one of us" is most comfortable and balanced when she has a calm, strong owner.
Occasionally she will leave a brown delivery on the floor, but only if her potty pad is soaked, so we don't reprimand her for that.
She walks very well on the short leash -- staying at my side or a little behind me -- and when on the long leash rarely deviates from the direction I'm walking (a simple "hey" is the command that perks her ears up and brings her back under control easily... usually); but I don't trust her to take her off the leash yet.
We have been fostering this dog since we rescued her last winter. She was abandoned in an apartment we lived in. When I found her, it was heartbreaking. She was a frozen, starving bag of bones, and I'm certain she was beaten and abused. Whoever the previous owner was had her vocal chords removed.
While this little dog was building trust in us, she hid under the bed and behind the toilet often, shaking like a leaf.
It's no shock that she can bite when being reprimanded (if you're angry, she'll feel it, and get scared, and then... look out). If the reprimand is stern and impassive, but calm, she has no problem. She is not an attacker -- although she can lunge at someone she doesn't know (because of her history of fear and abuse) and this of course includes children. With an experienced, patient owner, "one of us" can be so full of love. Look at her face.
Unfortunately, we can't take her when we leave Korea.
We've been wonderful foster parents for the past year. We trust that other loving people will take up where we leave off. One love. One earth. And don't forget, we are all members of the animal family.
