Description:

After screening many possible adopters I have found someone who will provide a loving and stable home for Ludwig, he will be going home to his new mom soon.

The rescue:
I was helping someone in my unit move into his new apartment. As I was carrying items from my car to his apartment, I noticed a cat desperately meowing at strangers for their attention. He approached them as if he was desperate, but everyone either kept walking or shooed him away. That week had the coldest temperatures recorded all winter. When I saw him, I instantly stopped thinking about how cold I had been all day and felt bad for how cold he had been for the past day, maybe week, possibly month or what could have been all winter. It was obvious he was not a feral cat and was once a house cat. At that point I didn’t know if he ran out or was thrown out. I continued carrying the items through the doorway and went into to the apartment. I spent about five minutes making sure the person I was helping move in was settled in and didn’t need any more help from me. I went back outside and the cat was nowhere to be seen or heard. I noticed earlier he was acting confused as if he was terrified and unfamiliar with his surroundings. I didn’t think he could have gone far judging by the way he was acting and somehow I had somewhat of a dark feeling that if I didn’t find him he probably wouldn’t last much longer exposed to the harsh conditions of the Korean winter. I started retracing his steps using a military trick often referred to as “the clover method”. I didn’t have to look far. After about a minute of searching I saw movement out of the corner of my eye. I looked to my right and saw him crawling under part of the apartment building. The sun would be down within the hour and the temperature was about to drop drastically. I knelt down and saw he had cornered himself. The look in his eyes told me he was tired, hungry, scared, confused, desperate, but it’s also a look I have seen before when someone or something just completely gives up like they have nothing left to give. I patted the ground and asked him to come to me. His eyes lit up and with no hesitation, he ran directly to me. He started rubbing against my leg and started meowing desperately like he was meowing earlier at everyone else. I knew the moment I saw him that I couldn’t just leave him out here to starve and freeze. At first I was skeptical about picking him up, but as soon as I saw how friendly and loving he was I didn’t hesitate. I picked him up comforting him and walked over to my car. Again, I was skeptical about holding him with one arm because I needed my arm other to unlock my car and open the door. The cat didn’t mind and didn’t even try to resist. I unlocked the door and put him in the back seat. I had no carrier to put him, but surprisingly he stayed in the back seat conveying what felt like a deep sense of gratitude.

Temperament:
Ludwig loves to talk, he will respond to things people tell him and he himself loves to start up conversations by coming up to you and meowing. He will sit in your lap while you watch TV or work on the computer, he really enjoys human companionship and he would really appreciate a nice stable home. Ludwig loves the warmth, during midday he is most certainly sunbathing on the balcony. He does very well with other cats; and enjoys the company. He is neutral to dogs and does not care whether or not they are around. Ludwig does well with kids as long as he is given ample time to get to know and trust them, he is still afraid of sudden movements and threatening gestures, so he is at his best with older/calmer children. Ludwig is a very sweet cat and will greet strangers with no problems; he does need a little bit of time to warm up and fully trust them. Like I said before because of Ludwig’s rough start in life he is still slightly afraid of sudden gestures, ones that resemble someone about to hit him, it would seem shooing him away isn’t the only thing people did to him. Ludwig just needs some time to forget his life on the street and the cruel way people have treated him, he needs a person who can show him how great love can be.

Current situation:
Although Ludwig was hungry, frost bitten and very dirty when he was found he is now doing profoundly well. He has been treated for all of his frost bite and it has healed well leaving only a small bald spot on his tail where the fur will most likely grow back. Ludwig has gone to the vet for a full checkup; he has been found to be free of fleas, ticks, and ear mites. He is now up to date on all of his vaccines and he has been neutered. Currently he is undergoing treatment for tapeworms, but that is an easy fix. After two washings Ludwig is now a brilliant white and orange, he no longer looks like the same sad kitty. He is the sweetest cat and I am working with him to get him to trust people even more. Ludwig is waiting for you. Just as he asked for help before, he asks again and trusts that a kind heart will respond.

Ludwig is looking for a permanent or foster home; I will be leaving Korea soon so either option is alright.

I require all potential adopters to fill out a short form. The adoption fee is 50,000 won.
