Daejeon Paws Roof Repair Appeal

Hi everyone,

In the recent storms that lashed Korea, the roof of Daejeon Paws was badly damaged. The roof had some minor repairs over a year ago, but it was not strong enough to withstand the heavy storms that hit Korea in the past couple of weeks.

Some of the external roofing came loose, and there is now a large hole in the ceiling on the top floor. During the storms, water ran down to the first floor leaving sections of the ceiling and the walls full of water, and they are now becoming moldy.

Mrs. Jung has moved some of the animals into other parts of the shelter to keep them away from the dampness, but that can only be a temporary solution. To continue to provide a safe and healthy environment for the animals, Daejeon Paws needs to make external repairs to the roof and replace the moldy plasterboard on the first and second floors. Mrs. Jung and all of the small dogs and cats of Daejeon Paws live inside the damaged building.

It will take at least 500,000 won to make these basic repairs. There have been some unexpected recent vet bills that have eaten into the shelter's reserve funds, so that is why we are making an urgent appeal for help with this unexpected problem. If you would like to make a donation to help with these badly needed repairs, please send it to Wooribank account #1002-240-455293 in care of Park Hyunjoo (박현주). Donations can also be made to PayPal account [email protected]. No donation is too small. Together we can make this right!

Thanks for listening...Let's keep the critters safe and dry!

Hi Deborah! Last Friday, I brought a few snacks to our favorite local bar, Moe's. We took up a collection for fixing the roof of Daejeon Paws, and we came up with 100,000 won! My boyfriend, Greg Tuck, is sending the money to Park Hyunjoo's account today. Good luck!

Any updates about the Daejeon Paws fundraiser?

Hi there,

I just wanted to post an update on the fundraiser. During the two weeks after the appeal was posted here and on Facebook, just under 1 million won was collected. The roof was repaired after Chuseok, and it cost 584,000 won, including materials and paying the men who did the work. As I mentioned in my original post, funds are scarce right now for the shelter, so the aditional funds raised were spent as follows: 96,000 on vet care for dogs; 35,000 for kitten vet care; 19,800 for canned food to administer medicine; 40,000 for for tissue, bleach, and cleaning products.

Thank you again to everyone who contributed!

That's great news! I was worried you didn't get enough and now winter is around the corner...

If this fundraiser is complete, you can change the category on this post to "Thank You".

Thanks for the update!
