Moving to Hong Kong

I had planned on moving to Hong Kong in a few months when my contract is over here. I foolishly thought the process to bring my dog would be pretty easy. Now I am realizing he will have to spend 4 months in quarantine.
Does anyone know if there is anyway around this or anyway to shorten the time?
Has anyone had there dog in quarantine for that long? I am worried about the effect on my dog.
The process is much easier if you bring a dog from Canada. Can I just fly into Canada for a week and then fly into Hong Kong with him?

Nope, a week in Canada won't do it. The dog must have lived there for at least 180 days per the Hong Kong AFCD pages.
