Shetland Sheepdog
Animal Name : None/Unknown
City/Location : Karama Shelter near Yangju Station in the north on Seoul Subway line 1
Breed : Shetland Sheepdog, a.k.a miniature collie
Sex : F
Spayed / Neutered : not sure
Age : about 4 years old
Size : 15 kg
Health status/ vaccinations : unknown, appears healthy
Behaviour/Personality : friendly
Rescue story : the story begins with YOU!
Adoption fee : whatever Karama charges
Adoption fee will be donated to : Karama
I saw this Sheltie on the Karama website two nights ago and my heart sank even deeper for this one. I had a Sheltie growing up so I know how magnificent these dogs are. Extremely intelligent, well-mannered, loyal and friendly. They always rank in the top ten most intelligent dog breed category. I don't think they need tons of exercise. One good walk or running around for a bit should suffice.
Also, I think these dogs are pretty rare in Korea. During my nearly five years here I've only seen two or three.
My hope is that someone can just get her out of there. She went to the shelter on February 22 so her time is ticking fast. Please consider fostering or adopting her. I'd love to do it myself but my plans are kind of up in the air right now.
Perhaps someone knows of a Shetie rescue in Korea that would take her?
She's just too precious to die like this. Please help her.
Last thing, if you have the space and time to help her I will personally help you with money for her check-up, food, etc.

Re: Shetland Sheepdog
Yes, she's a rarity here. I hope someone spares her. Or if someone can find out if she's good with rabbits, I could foster her. And there are at least 5~7 rabbits now at the shelter so they could test it out there instead of me taking her all the way to my house and seeing if it's going to work or not.

Re: Shetland Sheepdog
Is there a volunteer run going this weekend to the shelter? I would love to be able to meet up with them to go visit the shelter. I could ask if they could test them out with her or not. If there is a group going please let me know. Thanks

Re: Shetland Sheepdog
I don't think there are any volunteer groups from this site that visit this shelter on a regular basis. That's the one in Asan... The shelter that this beauty is at is actually near you. Do you know Yangju Station on line 1? It's three stops after Uijeongbu Station. I don't know if you have any time or desire to stop by. I live in Yongin so it would take me 3 hours to get there.

Re: Shetland Sheepdog
I would love to be able to visit the shelter. Does anybody speak english there? So after you get off the third stop where exactly do I go? Is it right outside of the train station? Thanks. I was planning on stopping by one of the shelters this weekend...

Re: Shetland Sheepdog
I've never been there myself but I've read that there is someone who speaks English. It's not right outside of the station, you have to catch a bus but it's not much farther.
Here is the thread about the shelter, how to get there, phone numbers and so on:

If you go please send an update! I would love to join you myself. It's just so far! And I feel kind of powerless..

Welcome ^^
When do you think you'll visit? I can't get her off my mind. I want to see her in person too.

Re: Shetland Sheepdog
We had a Sheltie collie when I was young and Jock was wonderful with kids; extremely intelligent. We also had a Scottish collie after Jock became old and went to dog heaven.
I hope Shamusia went to today to adopt/foster the Sheltie - we do not wish this dog to put to sleep because time ran out! remember KARMa requests you call first before going out there to view to adopt. Minnie is the English-speaking staff member to talk to if she is working there today Saturday.

Re: Shetland Sheepdog
Thanks Louise! I got a very informative email today from Sofia about the rescue process. It's a little overwhelming for a first-timer but I'm going to take the steps towards getting her out of there and onto a better life TODAY!
I also had a Sheltie growing up and in my opinion they are the best dog in the world. That's why I feel so compelled to do something for this one. It's like my duty
Don't worry. I think it's going to be okay ^_^
Thanks for the kind words about Shelties!!

Re: Shetland Sheepdog
Just to update, I called the shelter today and they said that she's still there. Tomorrow they're going to check to see if anyone else has reserved her. If not, they will send me an application form to fill out and we'll get the ball rolling!

Re: Shetland Sheepdog
Good news everyone. This dog was not put up for adoption. She was found wandering around and her owner was looking for her. She was reunited with her owner on February 26th. YAY!
We can erase this post now or put it in the happy ending section.
Thanks to all who helped!!

Re: Shetland Sheepdog
I wonder why this dog didn't have a name tag?...
Another one with no name tag has to pay a price
Is it that difficult to provide your dog with a name tag?..

Re: Shetland Sheepdog
Sorry, I can't answer that
If she was my dog that wouldn't have happened. I'm just glad that everything turned out okay and let's hope her owner learned a lesson.
