The Daejeon City Shelter (not to be confused with the private shelter that moved last winter) is trying to help the animals.
According to the law, they are supposed to euthanized all the animals they found after 10 days, but they are trying to help by keeping the healthy ones as long as possible. It means that they now have over 200 dogs and maybe 50 cats.
In other words, they need a lot of help! They are looking for adopters, foster homes, but also volunteers as several dogs haven't been walked in a year....
Please contact me if you can help in any way: they are a little desperate... ansauvage@yahoo.ca
It's great that they're not abiding by the 10 day rule, but I hope they can find more volunteers
Sorry so late posting these. I finally found them.

1...Adoption room...there are other rooms which are quarantined.
2...Outside large kennels for the bigger dogs and exercise pens.
3...There was a beautiful Samoyed puppy there.
4...They clean diligently every day several times. They followed us around and sprayed disinfectant on the floors after us.
5...Some puppies are kept outside the kennel rooms for less exposure.
6...Entrance to the barn.
7...The guys bringing in new strays. The gov't pays them about $50 each.
8...A mother cocker+her pups, outside the kennel room for safety and quiet.
9...Very large cages to the rt of the entrance for huge dogs.
10..Hallway as you walk into the shelter. Vet/staff office is 1st door on the rt. Next doors are adoption rooms, quarantine rooms, etc.

Reason: more pics and labels
I would love to go and volunteer and help out if I could, are there only trips for the weekend? Are there any options to visit on the weekday as well?
If someone could message me more info that would be great thank you!

They used to only be open M-F but they must be opening up more for volunteers now. I'm sure you could go by yourself any time during the week or go with friends.
Jeyn, are there any organized trips during the week?

It's very well done as they took pictures of every single step to get there.
I believe the shelter is open from 9 am to 5 pm during the week and from 9am to 1 pm on the weekend.
It's better to let them know you are coming, but until I have the shelter manager's permission to post her phone number here, please contact me at ansauvage@yahoo.ca or PM me.
Thanks~
There is a girl going on Saturday (the 10th) and since she is getting a ride, she wouldn't mind taking someone with her.
Contact me if you'd like her email address.
I was at the shelter last weekend and I'm planning on going again this Sat.
There are so many animals there that are just dying for attention. They have at least twenty kittens and a bunch of very friendly cats.
The dogs really need attention, many of them have matted fur and they're in such tiny cages. They go crazy for a bit of attention.
There are also a lot of big dogs, some puppies too! It's really worth going to see! The staff is very friendly and one of the woman speaks a little english. They are really fantastic!
We found out that if you go to the station that goes to the National Cemetery (included in the name), it is only a 3,500 W cab ride away from the shelter. Then you can call my friend to talk to the driver (email or PM me for her number).
The shelter is open from 10 to 4 or 5 during the week. You have to let them know you are coming and, if you want to adopt or foster, you can send me an email to fill out a form.
I was also at the shelter last weekend. There were so many animals there! Some of the dogs were 3 or 4 to a cage. The big dogs were in cages that were a bit small for them but it's the best the shelter can do. The staff is really good, like Jen said there is one woman that speaks a little bit of English. They don't allow for adoptions on the weekend because the manager isn't there but from what I understand you can make an appointment and he will come in on the weekend to place the animal. If you get a chance to go, take it. These animals are in desperate need of attention. Any time you walk by the room they all bark and get excited!
Hi, Jeyn!
Do u have any info about the Shitzu pup in the 4th pic (#14)? Seems like he/she is in the cage with many other pups.
I'm looking into foster caring her. I have adopted 9mths old Shitzu myself
I will be going to the Daejeon shelter this Sunday. If anyone wants to come along, we'll be meeting at the National Cemetary Subway station at eleven am.
It's a wonderful opportunity to help out by just giving some love...and taking a few dogs for a walk!

I first saw Buddy at the Jeju Animal Livestock (the animal shelter on Jeju island). At first sight, she looked like a healthy and happy dog,... [Read More]
