My kitten is 6 months old and so I asked my local vet how much for neutering and was quoted 450,000! Is this average? If not could anyone recommend a good place to go? I live just outside Seoul in Hanam.
Cheers!

450,000 is very steep. Rates seem to vary tremendously from vet to vet, but I think you should be able to find a good vet who can do it for under 100,000 won. I'm not in Seoul, but there should be plenty of choices.
I know a great vet in Daegu who I recommend because he uses a liquid adhesive instead of stitches, so the process is much faster and there is no painful recovery time/removal of stitches necessary. PM me if you are interested. Not necessarily the most convenient trip from Seoul, though.

She actually came from Chungwha as a rescue kitten so will try calling there. I emailed but had no response yet. Thanks!

It usually costs more to spay a female cat than it does to neuter a male, but 450,000 is ridiculous. Good luck!
for a female cat, you should never pay more than $200. average is about 130-150 depending where you go. Dr. Kim at Chungwha I am sure would give you a nice discount if the rescue is from there. try calling Sohee there.

Too much! But I called another vet in Hanam and they quoted 300,000 won.
Here in Daejeon, it's 100,000 won for the spay and 30,000-50,000 for the pre-op blood test (to make sure the liver can handle the anesthetic.)
Castration is from 50,000 to 100,000 depending on the vet, and the blood test is extra.

Wow that's cheap - I ended up taking her to Chungwha Animal Hospital in Itaewon. It cost around 350k but they really took good care of her and were very thorough in post-op care.

Did you have to leave her overnight in the hospital?

No - took her in at 10am and picked her up about 4pm when she woke up. She was groggy but fine after a day or so.

Same here. Punky was fine right away and eating the first night. Chunsa wasn't eating until the next day. I brought them home right away and tooe them back every day for injections and did all the post-op care. I actually stayed at the vet all day during the surgery and did the technicians' work with him.
My friend said his dogs stayed in the hospital for 3-4 days so it was more expensive. Same doctor.
Next in line is Mega to get spayed and teeth scaled and polished.

spaying a cat cost that much?!? Why? Our 60 lb female dog cost 200,000 won on base to get fixed. I thought that was alot. Do cats just cost more than dogs?

No, those are just incredibly expensive prices. The vet near my apartment charges 100,000 plus blood work for males and I think it's 130,000 plus blood work for females. Dogs were more expensive (I think with blood work for a female it was 300,000) but I went to Dr. Pet in Gangnam.
