Cruelty towards animals is a world wide problem . It shouldn't be allowed
anywhere . Therefore , animal lovers should , wherever they
live , try to help and participate with locals about animals. This
includes proper treatment of pets and other issues.

I again don't agree that dogs are not seen as pets in South Korea. They
always have been pets .
When Buddhism was the main religion, people used to live side by
side with cats and dogs .
During long wars, Buddhism slowly diminished in importance in Korean society
and Confucianism took its place .
One of important rules of confucianism is to live in harmony with
nature, which includes treating animals with respect.
(I use this argument a lot with Korean locals)
During times of extreme poverty, people resorted to eating dogs (not
only in Korea). I understand that during wartime you have to survive,
but that time is
long gone and the dog meat industry has flourished because
people saw a new way to earn fast money, pushing the reputed health benefits.
According to the government, dogmeat is not technically legal. This seems to be
a big issue for dogmeat eaters and non dogmeat eaters .
I don't see why people from both parties push for legalization when
the goverment doesn't prevent everyone who wants a licence for
boshintang restaurants from easily getting it . It is not at all forbidden .
I have seen an award plaque on a boshintang restaurant given
by the local goverment.
My main point is that people here try to distinguish "food" dogs
(farmed) from pets. True, farm dogs should not be considered pets .
But can any dogmeat eater show me a dog farm? All I see is that
farmers all over the country are raising dogs in small boxes where they
live from puppy to adult in their own feces , eating kimchi and rice
most of the time, sleeping in their own diarrhoea .
(Dog mom breastfeeding next to a dead dog , last year the police
cought this unhealthy situation and 50 dogs and puppies were put
to sleep)

(But this situation is not always detected . Bon apetit)

How healthy is it to eat a dog who lives in these conditions? I think that the
problem is not just that people find dogmeat delicious or healthy .
Many people live in fancy apartments, have nice cars, nice clothes,
good jobs and find themselves very modern .
But their own opinions are hard to find because everybody is just following each
other and most people won't offer their own opinions . Not only about dogmeat,
but about every issue including serious social problems such as
alcoholism. In such a system, rumors and myths about dogmeat are
readily accepted, and even well-educated people accept as fact the
notions that dogmeat is both highly nutritious and an integral part of
Korean culture.
Being vegetarian is a choice that people make, but non-vegetarians can
still oppose dogmeat without being hypocrites.
I also want to say something about dogs in general and farm animals .
Farm animals have been domesticated to eat because humans are by
nature omnivores.
Therefore you have veterinarians for pets and veterinarians for farm
animals. They aren't treated by the same vets because there is a
difference between these animals .
Dogs have been living with people since early antiquity, and are our
companions and service animals, helping disabled people (never
saw a pig doing this) or helping people to find victims in earthquakes (never
saw cows or chickens doing this) and helping blind people and people
with other disabilities to find their way in life. This makes dogs
deserve the status they enjoy as "man's best friend" .
Dogs are not fundamentallydifferent from each other .When I walk by a caged
farm dog, they always cry and want to come out and ask for love and attention .
Therefore I find it not possible to compare a dog to other farm animals .
The respect and love that human beings get from cats and dogs
is forever and unconditional. Unfortunately, humans are the
cruelest of animals in a way and have destroyed so much on Earth
including other living creatures.
While this knowledge is disturbing and frustrating, I won't stop
helping pets who are on my way and needing help .This time it is
Korea, and who knows where it will be next time ? Together with this
help for animals, I am not going out of my way to argue when the topic
is about cruelty toward dogs and cats .
I have to believe that one day this cruelty will stop !
