Hi Karen

I'll catch the KTX down and will join you on Saurday. In the meantime I'll speak to my vet and see what things I can pick up from him to bring down with me.

Once you have decided on a time to meet please let me know.

Cheers
Tim

Karen,

Louise and I are in as well. Because of the weather, it would be best to be at the shelter as early as possible. And if hauling sacks of dog poop is on the agenda, maybe we can try to secure a wheelbarrow?

I spoke with Lt. Com. Lee and he said the shelter manager is very happy we will be going on Saturday, so

Saturday is confirmed!

Meeting Time (Option A has been chosen democratically!):

-10:00, Saturday, July 7th at my house (e-mail me for directions and phone number)
-Head to the shelter for 10:30ish
-Break at lunchtime when it gets hot...
-Restart work after lunch if we still have more to accomplish.

Confirmed list of people going, (11) as of Saturday:

Karen (me) + Eric
Mark+Louise
Annie + Jules
Tim
Chaitanya
Gregg + 1

AND Lt. Com. Lee!

Listed of DONATED items:

* one Jindo-sized harness/leash, treats, shampoo, cleaning products (Annie)
* one used rubber doghouse, 10 large rope toys, 4 bowls, 4 clip-to-the-cage-door small water dishes, two used medium-sized harnesses (no leashes), nail clippers and brush (Karen)
* a wheelbarrow! (Mark & Louise)
* food (Tim)
* 10 collars + 10 leashes for small dogs (Gregg)
* food, treats, toys (Piotr)
* collar + leash (large breeds), treats (Cyrax)

In case of rain:
I have a rainjacket and will be going to the shelter regardless of weather. If it rains I won't be picking up trash, though, I'll be inside the greenhouse socializing the dogs who really, really need some TLC, and also dropping off my donation. We can also take photos/video and ask questions for information purposes regardless of weather. The more information we can gather about this shelter, the easier it will be to get support from other organizations to help out these animals.

What to bring:
-Gloves
-Cotton mask (for nose&mouth)
-Work clothes + change of clothes for afterward
-Water/Juice + your lunch
-Rainjacket and/or hat (there isn't much shade)

Here are a couple of the sweeties waiting for us:

In addition to the items on "What to bring", it would be a good idea to get those face masks to cover your nose. Last time inspite of the face mask I had a terrible time with some pollen that kicked up my allergies. I do not want to imagine my situation without one.

You're right! I added it to the list. Thanks!

Just a thought, but if we could all list what we are planning on bringing...I know it doesn't matter if we get a lot of some items, but maybe we won't have any of others. I am sure you get what I mean.
I am personally planning on bringing a big leash for the jindos, some cleaning products, shampoo, and some treats. If needed, I will also bring replacement milk (the one my kitty refuses to drink...).
Oh Karen, can you count Jules in for the morning?! Eric has some power!! :lol:

I can bring
- a collar (large breeds)
- a leash + some gloves (not sure exactly how many) (large breeds)
- treats (not dog food)
- loads of discipline and love (for the dogs) :D

I R.E.A.L.L.Y want to walk the Jindoes on Saturday.

Sounds awesome, cyrax. I'm sure you'll have a chance to walk some big dogs, but none of them have been tested for heartworm as far as I know. Maybe you'll get to walk them all, just very briefly :)

Lt. Com. Lee will be joining us at 1pm, so we're kind of without a translator until he gets there, but he is calling ahead again to let the shelter manager know how many of us to expect!

I picked up a few breakfast snacks and juice so we can have a quick bite before we head out. Don't forget to pack your lunch, though! :)

See you all tomorrow.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to everyone who came to yesterday's shelter trip! Between the 10 of us foreigners we reprensented Canada & Quebec, the USA, England, Australia, India and the Netherlands!

I think we all did a fantastic job cleaning the dirtiest things we've ever seen in our lives!! We need to congratulate ourselves, bigtime :D

The results of yesterday shelter visit:

We worked from 11am to 4pm on a very hot day, an amazing feat in itself. The most impressive task we accomplished was scraping, scrubbing, and bleaching the trays under ALL of the cages (70~80), which took several hours despite the size of our group. We also moved a dozen giant bags of poo to another location, gave some treats and toys to the dogs, played with the big Jindo-types a little bit, got more information about how the shelter is run, and left quite a lot of stuff for the shelter manager: bowls, collars, leashes, treats, shampoo, and of course cleaning materials for the next time :)

Please post photos if you have some. I only took a few at the end of the day when of course we were looking our best... stay tuned!

Oh, one last thing! I want to especially thank Gregg for forgetting a huge block of cheddar cheese in my fridge. It will be fantastic with the really good bread no one wanted to eat for breakfast :P
