Hi all,
Since I missed my first self-imposed deadline, I just thought I'd check in and let you know what was going on with the new ARK site...
So far, I've finished designing:
- New adoption listings!
The new listing structure is based on filling out a form rather than copying and pasting a text template. Providing info and attaching images is much easier, and profiles will have a more structured look.
- Faceted search!
Lists for Age, Colour, Breed, Gender, and City results will show up in the sidebar of adoption listings, so potential adopters looking for (for example) a dog in Daegu will see "Daegu -- (10)" and know immediately that there are 10 dogs for adoption in Daegu and can click to get a list of all of them.
- List of animals who need foster homes!
Without having to write up a separate listing, one page lists all the animals for foster based on information in the adoption profile.
- Adopted animals gallery
Authors will be able to move a listing to the "Adopted" section themselves soon, which will soon look more like a gallery.
- New animal shelter listings
Members will be able to fill a form to create a more structured listing for an animal shelter. The shelter listings will be in a sortable list format.
- Adoption information
I've rewritten most everything about adoption, and separated the information for adopters from the information for people who want to post an animal. It's much tidier and far more clear.
- Information about getting involved
I've rewritten and expanded the "ways to help" (http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/index.php?pageid=how-to-help) page into several short pages with more information about each point.
- Articles
I've also created a form for article submission and a sortable article listings section with categories and tags.
Sounds like a lot, but here's what's not yet finished:
Styling
User Permissions
Migrating the old user database to the new site
Migrating articles from the forum to the new site
Moving the development version to The Server
So it will take me a bit more time to get this all done, but I'm very near the end and looking forward to launching the new site soon. I just can't say exactly when yet, sorry!
