Hi everyone,

This is an urgent alert for potential foster parents.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to commit to regular volunteer work, but I travelled to the Asan shelter Saturday to speak with Mr. Park and some Korean animal advocates. Of course I had to cuddle some dogs while I was there. <3

Mr. Park recently rescued a large group of dogs from a hoarder’s home in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. Until now, they have been under observation at the Asan shelter, but they urgently need a home environment where they can learn how to live as well-adjusted family members. Most of the dogs probably need housetraining, some are probably shy, and all of them should see a vet soon to determine whether they have heartworms or anything else adopters need to be aware of.

The most critical cases right now are three mama dogs with young puppies. The youngest puppy is only about three weeks old and volunteers are very worried about him/her. Another litter is a bit older with two babies, and the third litter has five babies. They all appear to be small/medium-sized mixed-breed dogs and they’re extremely cute.

Volunteers are desperately looking for foster homes so these babies can get their shots ASAP and get started on housetraining and socialization.

If you can help any of these babies, please e-mail Charis at charis_cook@hotmail.com. If you want to help but don't think you can handle a puppy, there are some really sweet adults in the group too (including a mother dog whose babies died). As I said, I’m not a regular Asan volunteer, but if you PM me I’ll do my best to get you the information you need or get you in touch with someone who can guide you to the shelter.

Photos: I took some of these; Charis and Sujin took others.

Update: I'm taking one dog family out of this thread since one of the siblings is adopted and the other two are in foster care. But since I last wrote, at least one litter has been born to a recently arrived dog who must have gotten pregnant at the hoarder's house.

Volunteers have already raised funds to help these babies but they really need to get out of the shelter. The longer they stay there, the harder it will be for them to adjust to life outside the shelter. They need families that can give them the attention, exercise and training they need to be good canine citizens. They're already very friendly and I know there's someone reading this who's in a position to take one home. A foster home could save their lives.

And Mipa of Alien's Day Out (by far the best Korea blog on the Internet) is helping the volunteers publicize the need for foster homes and adopters for these perfect babies:

One of the older babies may have a foster home lined up, but the others are still stuck at the shelter. Please help if you can. If not, please share the information. I'm very worried about them.

I hear that Blossom (the smallest in the oldest group of puppies) left the shelter recently. Hopefully someone will post an update soon.

Hi All -- Im moving to Korea this upcoming weekend, and am extremely interested in fostering/helping out! I have a small dog (3 pounds) who is coming with me from the states. My dog loves other animals, and is good with people. I will be working as a teacher (7 hours a day), and would like to help out as much as possible!! After I get settled, I would be more than willing to foster a dog in/close to my area. Thanks!

That would be great! They really need you.

Someone wrote elsewhere that Blossom (http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/forums/showthread.php?t=6387) has left the shelter, but I think everyone else must still be there. I hope we'll get an update soon.

Update: Blossom is adopted and Bubbles and Buttercup are in foster care. Since I haven't heard otherwise, I have to assume the other puppies and moms are at the shelter and are physically all right. There must be at least 12 or 13 puppies, I think? That's too many animals and too few humans to socialize them as well-adjusted family dogs. Anyone who can volunteer to foster one of these families will be doing a wonderful, important job.

Looks like the puppies have a new thread (http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/forums/showthread.php?p=44223#post44223).
