I received this email from Nicole who adopted Basil back in October from the shelter...:
At about 10:15 tonight Basil got lost in Sinchon (across the street from Hyundai Department Store). I was walking him, using a harness and a retractable lead. He yanked at just the right time and the lead retracted, out of my hands. As most of you know, Basil is a very skittish little guy and he was terrified. He "ran away" from the loud, clanking handle and away from me. He managed to cross the road and several people said they saw him, but he disappeared and eventually there was no sign of him. After 2 hours of searching the area (and almost every hiding spot), there's been nothing.
He was NOT wearing the red bandana that he has on in the pictures. I was taking him out for 2 minutes and didn't think to put it on him. The bandana has his tags with my phone number. The harness doesn't.
We need help making a flyer in Korean. I need it to have the following information:
He was lost in Sinchon around 10:00 PM Saturday, May 3. His harness is brown, and matches the lead in the photo (see attached). The lead he had on him was a retractable one with a pink handle. My phone number is 010-3143-1344.
Can anyone help us?
Thank you,
NicoleI hope we can find him....
Good luck!

Here is the latest update (received on the 5th):
Just a quick update, but I'm afraid no good news. We have hung about 500 flyers in Sinchon/Edae. I have met so many incredibly nice Koreans who have been trying to help. We met someone who actually saw Basil running toward Yonsei that night. He is so very fast - he crossed the rotary, apparently unscathed, at least 3 times.
The flyers include a reward of 100,000 won (that goes for ANYONE who finds him!). Apparently this means people think it's ok to try and tell us they've found him, only to find out later they were just "joking". This was so hilarious.
I've also had some incredibly generous offers from people to help make posters and whatnot. I'm taking you up on it!! :) Our poster is ok, but we'd love to have something better. Also, if anyone knows a place to look or post, perhaps on Naver or Cyworld, for lost & found pets, that would be extremely helpful.
A huge thanks to EVERYONE who has helped, I cannot begin to thank you enough.
Love,
Nicole

Which doggy was that? Can you post the posters here so people from
your town who read post this can copy and help spread the flyers if they are
from different neighbourhoods? Usually dogs keep on moving and don't stay
at the same place?
Good luck to the owners!
I see the pictures now,I remember that dog.Poor thing :(

here is a link to what to do when you lose an animal in Korea: http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/forums/showthread.php?p=2716#post2716
Also, check with your municipal pound. It is called a GuChong and they euthanize the pets after 10 days. It is worth asking someone to call or check out their website for you (well, mine didn't speak English, but maybe yours does). Each municipality has one and they can even let the animals go for adoption if not claimed (they are actually rarely claimed...).

The same thing happened to me when I first got Hobbes.. He walked under a bench and when I tried to untangle the leash, it fell on the ground and spooked him.. he started running and yelping and started to head back to our house.. luckily he avoided any major streets.. but he fell down an open grate.. luckily he didn't fall the whole 2 stories but landed in a maintenance shaft 1/2 a floor down.. he was so scared he peed & pooed himself.. now we don't use a retractable leash anymore..
I hope you find your doggy soon.. hopefully he's found a nice person to take care of him for the time being..

Latest update:
Hello everyone,
Another HUGE thanks to everyone's help/offers to help. I have indeed found someone (a few actually) to post on the Korean sites, and some others. (Thanks Annie!!) This is a huge relief to me. I have increased the reward to 200,000 won. It's upsetting to me that someone would need MORE money to return him to us if they found him, but if it works...
I have also received offers to help post flyers from friends and even people I don't know!! Amazing! So, just FYI, I and a few others will be hanging flyers between 10 AM and 3PM on Saturday. If anyone else will be in the area and wants to score a free lunch they would be most welcomed. I plan to hit Yonsei and the surrounding areas.
I am still needing a less-crappy poster, if at all possible. Though the current one does get the point across, it could be much better. Again, this isn't crucial, but if someone has an urge to create one, that would be great...
Best,
Nicole nicole.fitch@gmail.com

I would recommend going around and making sure your posters are still up.. alot of street cleaners just tear them down.. regardless of content...

Nicole is going to put up more posters this morning (May 10) as Basil was seen on Edae campus:
Hello everyone,
I've had a few tips from people who have seen Basil on Edae campus. I spent several hours there today posting flyers. However, his last sighting was 2 days ago. He may be far away from there by now, who knows.
Tomorrow morning (May 10) at 10:00 AM I'm meeting with a few people to post flyers. I've had a few amazingly selfless people offer to help, so I thought I'd invite others. I'll meet everyone at Sinchon Station, exit 2, in front of Twosome Place. If anyone is interested, please send me a message to let me know. There's a free lunch in it for anyone who comes!
Thanks again to everyone!
P.S. I'm sorry I haven't had a chance to reply to all the kind emails individually - I've been getting many and am very busy with work as well. Just do you know, you are each so very appreciated! When Basil's home, we'll have a BBQ and invite you all over to meet him.

i noticed you were talking about that the posters werent the best... they actually have companies that make lost dog posters... and have you went to the closest vet or surrounding vets? and have you posted the posters in the apartment area? just in case if someone found him and they were watching after him. and ask one of your korean friends to go to the apartment offices to send out on the intercom that your looking for a dog and have them describe it. also look on korean lost dog sites such as animal.or.kr and check karama.co.kr and chek that one fast!!!! its a kill shelter and in 10 days they euthanize them....... sad..... and all the dogs that are in seoul that either get captured or were in the vet for about a week get sent there ALL the dogs in seoul that shelter is in gyoungi do but its a seoul shelter HURRY! and i hope you find him... i really do.:o

sarah24, that's a good idea to keep an eye on all the lost animal sites...
Here's a link to the KARAMA found animal listings: [link removed: see here (http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/forums/showthread.php?t=829)] they have many new listings every day :(

Hi Nicole, I've been thinking of Basil every day and really wish I could do something to help, but I don't know what to suggest beyond what everyone else has already mentioned.
I really hope you're getting help from a Korean speaker who can phone the Seodaemun-gu, Mapo-gu and neighbouring district offices on a daily basis in case he’s been picked up and is being held somewhere ... here are the links in case you don't have them.

Please let us all know how the search is going, when you get a chance.

Any news? Apparently Nicole and I have the same hair stylist because somehow my dog was mentioned and he mentioned a client of his who lost her dog and I realized it was Nicole.
