When I was in Korea I was on the 14th floor of SongLokSu apt one sunday morning, 2005 and felt an earthquake of 7.5 in SW Japan. It was scarey and I didn't have an evacuation plan for Toby and me. I didn't even jump up and start to run for the stairs because I was unsure it was really an earthquake until I called a friend and then we heard it on the news. There was a tsunami warning in Busan at that time. So hopefully, people on that side of S Korea have an evac plan for them and their pets if another one hits that side of Japan.

I don't know the coverage you're getting there but here's one from this side of the world. I am stunned and saddened by the tragedy. But among all the videos of survivors, I can see a few dogs who got out with their people and the love between them.

I just saw Karen's link--that's such a wonderful story!

This no-kill coalition is doing what they can to help the nonhuman victims: http://jears.org/

Kia and the author of Alien's Day Out (not sure if she has an account here) held a vegan bake sale in Seoul to help JEARS and Mercy Corps (another group that is helping the human victims). I'm not sure how much they raised but there was a ton of great food! (Even my picky princess liked the dog treats.)

Thank you, Kia and Mipa.

According to some reports, many people have been forced to evacuate the area around the Fukushima plant and were either not allowed to take their nonhuman babies with them or didn't realize they wouldn't be allowed back in. It's not clear how much access rescuers may have had to the area, and there are conflicting accounts on the Internet, but things sound pretty bad.

Thanks Red Dog. I had heard about this but didn't know there was anything I could do. So, here it is. http://www.arkbark.net/?q=en/node/3032

Print and sign the petitin and MAIL it. They will ignore emails.

I'm going to print several and take them to places like PetSmart when they're having adoption day on saturday. That's for starters and any other advice or suggestions would be great.

I'll also check the price of postage for Japan so they don't just smack a 44 cent stamp on it and have it returned to the US.

You can probably get a lot more sent from Korea cuz it's cheaper.:)
