REUNITED!
I'm still very shocked by what just happened. As I was walking home from the gym I began thinking of Scruffy (a mini schnauzer mix I took care of last year and then Karen's parents adopted) and how much I miss him. Then I thought that I should take a different way home, in a more residential area just in case I saw a stray dog or cat! I was thinking of a stray dog, but I still had the image of a schnauzer when I thought that. As I was walking, I saw a mini schnauzer, wearing a red shirt going the opposite way. There was someone walking about 10 metres behind her so I thought they are going for a walk. I knelt down and began to pet her, smiled at the person walking by thinking it was her dog and was startled when the person kept on walking. The dog was a little reluctant when I stood up, holding a black bag, but eventually came to me and gave me his paw and then bowed. I kept looking around because I was sure she was with someone, but nobody was in sight. I picked her up and stood in the area for a few minutes and then walked up from where the dog had come, waiting for about 15 minutes. Nothing. So, I took her up to my apartment (this was almost right across from there), gave her some water and quickly went to a vet nearby. I had just 10 minutes before they closed. Finally I got there, put the dog down, she sniffed a bit but them came back to me and sat right beside me. I talked with the woman who owned the clinic (thankfully she spoke English well), filled out a form and then thought of the options. I asked her how long they can keep the dog a tthe clinic if nobody come to pick her up and she said one day and then she'll be sent to the Gunpo shelter at which point, if nobody claims her within 10 days, she'll be put down.
I knew that today was going to be an unusual day and I knew when I thought of Scruffy and decided to take a different route home and then saw the lost dog that this was not a coincidence. The lady was very sympathetic and told me she can keep the dog there until Wednesday and she'll take care of her personally. Of course I thought of taking the dog home with me, but I was just too confused and shaken by this ordeal, so I was glad when she offered to help. I will go back tomorrow and if nobody claims her I will take her home with me and keep her until someone does claim her. Tomorrow I'll ask a co-worker to help me make a poster and I'll post it around. The only problem is that the last dog I was fostering was too noisy so I wasn't able to foster him in this building any longer. I hope this isn't the case.
I will try to foster her, but, just in case it doesn't work out, I will need a back up plan, and that is to ask someone here to foster. But, I'll get to that later when I spend some time with her. She is quite clean, recently groomed and well behaved, so I assume she found herself on the street just a day or two earlier. Hopefully her owners are looking for her.
This is freaking me out a little bit. My heart is still racing. I'll update tomorrow.
