Hi all,

Our 6 month old furball needs to go under the knife, but when I asked my vet about spaying he quoted me 300,000 won for the procedure. Everything else (vacinations, general care) has been been okay as far as prices go, but 300,000W seems a bit expensive. Is this the general cost of spaying in Korea? Any info is appreciated.

Is that the total cost, including pre-surgery blood tests? It seems a little high, but if blood tests are included I don't think it's much more than I paid for my foster kitty two years ago. However, she had a lot of tests and some shots, and she also had to be hospitalized for a while because she wouldn't eat right away. I don't remember the exact cost of the surgery alone.

Costs seem to vary from place to place.

Hi, just to let you know that every vet in Korea is different. I have found that if the vet "likes" you often times you will get drastically better prices. We have dropped off boxes of cookies and things at our vet's office and have a good relationship with him (though we're his only foreign clients). A simple "thanks for being our vet" card can do wonders, we've gotten vaccines 1/2 off, free medication and huge discounts (one of 100,000 won) from our vet. :-)

^ Good points ... also, if the kitty is a rescue they may give you a rescue discount.

Definitely shop around a little. I'm assuming it's a female (since you say "spay"), so it's actually a common price if it includes all the bloodwork and aftercare.

Thanks for all the info everyone. I checked at another place yesterday and they quoted me the same price. Sad to say, but it looks like 300,000 is the standard price in Bundang for spaying a cat. On the plus side, my vet seemed to do a very good job. I think he did most of the procedure orthoscopicly so there aren't any stitches and no need for a vet return. The cat's a little grumpy but I'm pleased that I might get a meow-less nights sleep tonight.
