View Full Version : How to approach Korean?

It's been a while now that I saw this beautiful golden lab (I think she's about 6 months old at the most) always chained all day long by this Korean family, either on the outer part of their house or sometimes they put her in the empty lot near their house (even when it's snowing). So I was thinking maybe I can offer them to walk her since I always try to walk my dog everyday, at least that poor dog can exercise her legs a little bit and I know that's gonna make her happier because now she looks like a very shy and kinda afraid everytime I try to pet her. Anyway, 3 days ago I decided to try to talk to the owner (a korean man in his 40s I think) when I pass their house while walking my dog. I don't speak Korean but I tried my best to explain to him that I'd love to walk his dog. I said "개가 운동을 시키하고 싶어요" He said "운동을 안돼요" I'm not sure whether he understood that I just want to offer to walk his dog for free since I'm walking my dog anyway or maybe he doesn't trust me or something so I wonder if anybody can give me some suggestion on how I can approach him better?

I don't speak Korean either and do manage to explain or ask things with some
expressions. I would say, stay friendly to him and greet him politly so he knows
you have good intentions.
Show him your leash and dog and try to make him understand you want to do
the same for his dog.
It is easier if you have a Korean friend asking for you though. But after you gaining
some trust I am sure you can do it ;)

Ok. I asked my friend. He said how the person reacts just depends on the individual person.
죄송한데요... 실례가 안된다면 제가 그 골든 리트리버를 산책시켰으면 하는데... 괜찮을까요?
That's what he suggested you say.
It means: Excuse me. Do you mind if I spend some time and walk your dog.

Thank you for your input, I shall try it. It may take time to gain his trust but I'll try. Let you guys know how it goes ...

I could call him if you need a help.
I'd like to ask him why he answered that. Maybe he got some reasons that he shouldn't let his dog exercise but he couldn't explain in English.
I think it's a matter of communication.
And many of old Korean people don't understand that Dogs need exercises, Free space, Love and tenderness.
But I don't wanna blame them. They just don't know how to love. And they will learn soon.
