Hey,

So we adopted Lincoln from the shelter about three+ months ago... and we've always known him to be a mix of many different breeds. Well, today we took him to the vet and she was quite certain that he was a "Balbary" (i'm sure the spelling is wrong) breed. I asked what that was and she said that it was a traditional Korean dog. I always thought that Jindos were the only traditional Korean dogs.

Anybody have any information or knowledge about Balbary dogs? Or maybe it's Barbary? Or Balbaly? Or Barbaly?

Here's a picture of Lincoln (he's the one on the right). http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b186/lastbelieverkid/CIMG2593.jpg

The other one is Deva, and we're almost certain she's a mix of a Japanese Spitz.

Anyways, thanks for any help...

I had a similar experience with the dog that I'm trying to find a home for---Palbi (short for Pal-bari). This not a real breed name---according to some Korean vets and friends that I've asked. It is a word that kind of means 'feet pattering' (Pal = feet; bari--kind of means pattering). This is generally used for small mixed breed dogs. See my posts on this site for pictures of Palbi--maybe he looks similar to your Palbari.

Palbari means ''mongrel'' the clinical word of mix breed. He is cute and
looks like he has some''corgi'' in him :)

There is another traditional Korean dog called a Sop-sal-ggi (sp?) They are on Dokdo. The only way I heard of them was that my art teacher in Ouijeongbu City was commissioned to paint Dokdo and there were several Sopsalgis in his pictures. I also painted them. They look a lot like my Cockapoo I had many years ago...shaggy, grey-black and medium size. I think I may have seen one at Gyreongsan near the Art/ceramic Village.
