Mangchee's Story:

Mangchee's a 4 year old neutered brown Cocker Spaniel that was passed around as a puppy and finally ended up on a four foot chain when he outgrew his cuteness.

My boyfriend heard that his grandma was going to sell the Cocker Spaniel she had chained outside her house. She simply didn’t want to take care of him anymore. For a measly 30,000 won (about $25), this dog would be sentenced to a brutal death. We rented a car and drove 3 hours to meet him. When we arrived, I was saddened. Not only was his hair was filthy and matted, but he was breathing heavily.

We drove him to the groomer’s to have him shaved down. He had to be sedated for what turned out to be a 3 hour process. He started to regain consciousness after his bath. Here he is in the drying room still very drowsy.

I am currently fostering Mangchee. He is heartworm positive, but will undergo treatment once the vet has the meds in stock. He is being treated for an ear infection. We are working on basic commands and housetraining.

Some reasons why Mangchee is awesome:

He's friendly
He gets along with other dogs
He charms middle school girls
He's incredibly good at shaking your hand!

Mangchee spent years outside neglected and ignored. That in no way diminished his sweet and loving personality. He deserves a great home. Will you be the one? Please contact me at muttblogger@gmail.com

Here are some girls that Manchee (and my dog Boscoe) met on a walk.
They were hesitant at first.

Mangchee was very calm and liked the attention.

Manchee and I went to the vet today. He received meds for his pre-heartworm treatment. He will go in for his injection on Monday. The grand total for his treatment will be a whopping 580,000 won. Even though I can't afford it, I feel an obligation to get Mangchee healthy as soon as possible.

There is some controversy over the rescue discount since he's my boyfriend's grandma's dog. I thought I was helping a dog with a death sentence. Just because I happen to know the awful person that owned the dog does not diminish the fact that HE IS A RESCUE.

Thankfully someone has already donated 30,000 won. I will post this in the donations and sponsorships forum. If you would like to donate toward Mangchee's treament, I would be eternally grateful. Please email me at muttblogger@gmail.com for more info about Mangchee or donating. Thanks:)

Mangchee and I went for a walk today. We met an enthusiastic ajusshi with one front tooth missing. He insisted I stop so I obliged. He proceeded to hug and kiss both of my doggies. I wasnt sure how Mangchee would react, but didnt do anything. Although I think he prefers head rubs over kisses.
As this was happening a father and his 6 or 7 year old son were walking by. The boy pet Mangchee on the head for about a minute and Mangchee sat there very calmly. I think I was the only one who was nervous.
I would say that Mangchee is nearly housetrained. He understands that he has to wait to go outside to pee and poo. Within a munite of leaving the house, he always unloads the contents of his bladder. He is currently on meds for his ears which causes him to drink A LOT of water. He's good about holding it until we let him outside. Occasionally when he cant hold it any longer, he pees on the floor. But I consider that my fault. I think once his ears clear up and he's off the meds, he will only need to go outside 2-3 times a day.
I used to think Cocker Spaniels were too big for apartments, but Manchee fits quite nicely. Please consider adopting him.

So I thought it would be a good idea to train Mangchee to pee in the bathroom in case were away for too long and he cant hold it.

He was letting me know that he wanted to go outside, but I took him to the bathroom instead. Then he walked to the pee pad and started to pee! He must have watched my dog do it and taken notes hehe. Im so proud of him. I just had to share:D

Thanks for helping this poor little guy and thanks for keeping us posted! I just sent a donation this week for another dog, but could send something for Mangchee at the end of the month. I'll be in touch for bank info! Also, I checked out your FB page & noticed another dog, Songhee. Do you know how he is doing now? Hmmm, maybe something is posted elsewhere on this site...

Wow thanks nomadatheart.

Check out the update for Songhee under the thread 'Poor Boy Needs a Place to Heal.'

He's getting treated for his skin, so he should be handsome again very soon.

Mangchee got his second heartworm injection yesterday. He seems very tired, but fine otherwise. He pretty much lounges around all day with a few potty breaks in between.

Here he is after the first injection. Look at his big brown tired eyes.

When he first came home with us, he didnt like it when we got near his legs which had a bunch of small wounds on them. They have since healed plus I think he is beginning to trust us a lot more. Im sure for the past 3 years, the only time he was touched by a person was when he was being hit for 'not listening.' I make it a point to pat him on the head and tell him what a good boy he is every time I pass by him. That way he knows that from now on when people touch him it's out of love.

Manchee had a rough couple of days. He was wheezing and coughing a lot. He got new medicine from the vet to help with that. Also, stroking his back until he calmed down seemed to help. Once after his coughing episode passed, he looked up at me with his big saucer sized eyes for about 10 seconds and then licked me on the face. I think that was a thank you.

This morning, he was coughing a lot. The vet said that was to be expected. As soon as I saw him coughing up blood, I took him to the vet. Since no taxi or bus would take me and Manchee isnt allowed to walk, I had to carry him in my arms all the way to the vet.

Turns out the blood is from an irritated throat. He got an injection to help with the coughing and some more meds. I carried him all the way home and he's sleeping on his favorite blanket. We are both exhausted.

Poor things...Thank you for helping him so much! The coughing usually means that she probably had a lot of worms :S

Thank you Annie for helping him too!

Mangchee is not doing very well. He coughed up blood again last night and lost his appetite. We took him to the vet and got an x-ray of his chest. Apparently he is having complications. Thrombosis-- or blood clots-- in his lungs. We were given syringes and we have to inject him twice a day at home. Yikes!

If his condition worsens, we were told that his prognosis is not good.

Mangchee FIGHTING!!!

Mangchee switched to a new medicine and we no longer have to inject him at home:) His breathing is not normal yet, but much improved.

I think he has come so far from the time I first met him. Here is a video of Mangchee on the way to the groomer. Notice his constantly wagging tail;)

Look how handsome he is now!

Through it all, he's kept that tail wag.

Mangchee was feeling spry enough to sneak food from the table. We used the stool and rod to keep them out of the room while we ate. It worked!

Mangchee's condition is not very good :( The vet's say his prognosis is not good, but I have to keep hope for him.
Normally he's not allowed on the bed, but being next to us seems to be the only thing that stops him from coughing all night. The BF seemed to think a scarf would help with the coughing.

I am a little scared to ask, but how is MangChee doing now?

Thank you Annie for showing concern. Mangchee is hanging on. I believe he's going to make it.

Since he never goes outside now, he is fully trained to handle his business in the bathroom. :)

He has also become friends with Binky the stuffed toy.

I'm sad to say Mangchee passed away yesterday afternoon. We buried him today in the countryside. Im very disappointed that he didnt have the wonderful future I imagined for him, but I know he was happy during the time he spent with us. I already miss him :(

I am very sad to hear that Mangchee passed away. So many people were rooting for him I wish he could have had the wonderful future you imagined for him. But his time with you was way better than his life before he met you. You were probably a dream come true for him, I am glad that you were able to give that to him.

Awe no~!! That is such sad news.... :( He had a crappy life until you saved him, and now he has passed on too soon. I'm really sorry to hear he couldn't make it, especially after all you did for him, and all the support he had from those who loved him. The picture of him when he was groggy at the vet made me smile everytime I saw it. Thank you so much for giving him so much love so that he could know what it is like to have people love him. RIP lil one, wish you could have had more time.
