This message from Tim (http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/forums/member.php?u=11):

We have a particular need for volunteers this weekend - my vet Dr Kwon will be accompanying us on Saturday on our usual weekly trip to Daejeon so that he can start the annual immunisation vaccinations for all of the 100 dogs still at the shelter. Obviously there will be a fair bit of additional work involved in doing this, so we would be most appreciative of anyone who has the time to come down to the shelter with us this weekend to help out. We also need people to assist us with our regular work (mainly walking the well socialised dogs or carrying those dogs who are still a bit too shy to go for a walk).

Dr Kwon will also be visiting the shelter with us on Saturday 5 April and Saturday 19 April so we will also have a requirement for additional volunteers on those days too.

Anyone who is interested in assisting with the cost of the vaccinations would obviously be more than welcome to do so.

Hopefully I will see a few of you on Saturday - either 8.30am at Seoul train station or 10.00am at Daejeon train station. Please let me know by Friday night if you are able to attend.

I would like to help out on 4/5. I'm trying to get some of my friends together to come with me because I am coming from Busan and don't want to go alone. Is anyone else planning on coming from Busan?

:)

I just had an operation so I can't go this weekend. I'm working on getting some things sorted so I can come soon though.

I would love to help out this weekend. I live in Seoul and can meet at Seoul station on Saturday morning. Where is Seoul Station does everyone meet? This would be my first time volunteering so I would really appreciate a push in the right direction!

Thanks,

Hi Linda. If you contact Tim Vasudeva, he can help you. His contact info. is all over the site here. We meet at 8:30 on the mezzazine level of the station (at the KTX entrance). From there, we go to Daejeon, where we taxi over to the shelter. :)

Tim;

I've just moved back to Korea and would love to get involved with helping the animals here. I've done a lot of volunteer work with humane societies and vet clinics in the past and am interested in joining the team to go down to Daejeon on April 19th. Please let me know if you are still looking for people and when/where everyone is meeting up. I am located in Suwon and would also be interested in being a temporary foster home for dogs or cats in the Suwon area.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you again soon.

hi, i'm new to this site!

i'm working in seoul for a year, and was looking online for possible jindos to adopt when i leave korea. i happened onto this site describing the work that is being done to save jindo dogs here in korea!

i already have one dog back in the USA that i'm positive is a jindo, although i didn't get any papers with him (he's a rescue puppy) :) i'd really like to help with the immunizations and everything you have going on. i used to walk my dog Chief every day :)

please let me know more details about the trip this saturday, april 5th!

also, if it's possible, please email me the information (hypermina@hotmail.com) since i'm unfamiliar with navigating around on this site.

thanks so much, and look forward to playing with jindos this saturday!! :) ~mina

Hi. Welcome to Korea. Hope you enjoy it so far. As for Jindo's, it's actually a Korean law that it is illegal to take Jindo's outside of Korea. Purebred's are protected, and can't leave. However, there are many mix breeds that look almost the same as purebred's. Another way around it is to get a vet that is willing to sign off saying that it is a mixed breed, but that may prove difficult also. They are beautiful dogs, and good luck. :)

oh no, i didn't realize!

well, i'm not specifically looking for a purebred, just a sweet puppy i suppose O:)

Seoul Station is the KTX station. They take the KTX train down (just under 1 hour trip).

the KTX costs about 15000won for one way, right? is it cheaper if they have anything like a round trip ticket? :) and how long will be be there, until late saturday night?

KTX is about 22,000w each way. You can come back at anytime.
I know last time I emailed Tim he said they needed leashes/harnesses, dog food, and the like. Last time I went we were there until around 5 or 6 (but that was with taking our dogs to the vet afterward).
Everyone meets at 845a on the mezzanine level at the KTX station. They take the KTX together and then share a taxi to the shelter.

Hi Erica

Thanks for organising a group from Busan for April 5th - 4 people, that's great!

We will meet you at the big rock out the front of Daejeon train station at 10am (I don't know why there is a big rock mounted out the front of the station, there just is... :) You will spot us no problem - there are very few foreigners in Daejeon and even fewer with dog carry cages.

If you're running late or can't find us please call me on my mobile 010 8940 5233 - I have sent you an email as well so you have my email address in the interim.

See you guys Saturday!

Best
Tim

Hi Tara

Thanks very much for your interest in volunteering and also fostering - that would be a great help, we always need more of both.

You're most welcome to join us on Saturday 19 April. I have another rescue friend Luis (who adopted a Jindo from the shelter) who lives in Suwon so I will ask him about the best way to get to Daejeon from Suwon (or perhaps he may even join us that weekend so he can show you).

You can call me on my mobile 010 8940 5233 any time if you need more information about the shelter or send me an email at tim.vasudeva@gmail.com

Hi Sarah

Thanks for your post - you're most welcome to come down to Daejeon with us on Saturday.

I ask people to be at Seoul station by 8.30am if that's ok. The KTX ticket booth & departure gate is one floor above the main area of Seoul station - there is an escalator with a KTX sign at both ends of the main area of Seoul station when you walk in, I will meet you at the top of the escalator.

If you're going to Seoul station via subway look for exit 1 and follow the KTX signs. If you're not sure just ask any of the Korail staff for "KTX" and they will know what you mean.

They do sell KTX tickets in the main area of Seoul station, however we meet one floor above there at the departure gate (the 2nd floor). Please make a note of my mobile number - you can give me a call on 010 8940 5233 if you are running late or get lost. If you have a phone please let me know what the number is in case I need to call you on the day.

If you can confirm for me that you are definitely coming the I can collect a ticket for you when I get to the station (it is allocated seating on the KTX so I try to arrange for all the volunteers, adopters & fosterers to sit together on the way down). A return ticket Seoul-Daejeon is about 40,000 won - I hope that is ok.

I would suggest you bring a change of clothes and footwear if possible, it's easy to get grubby at the shelter (especially if the dogs take a liking to you :)

Look forward to meeting you on Saturday - please confirm for me if you can definitely make it.

Cheers
Tim
