Animal Name : Sweetie
City/Location : Daegu
Breed : Greyhound maybe
Sex : female
Spayed / Neutered : not yet
Age : young

Health status/ vaccinations : Seems very healthy, good skin, good coat, healthy teeth

Behaviour/Personality : This girl is so SWEET! I cant even begin to describe it. We went walking in the park the other day and she greeted everyone when I allowed her to, she never tried to leap towards or jump when they petted her. She was so friendly with children and adults alike.

She also has manners and is very clean as she would not go to the bathroom on the road, alley or sidewalk which is common for the first 10 mins of the walk for most other dogs. Instead she waited until we were in the grass to go.

I personally promise you this girl will not disappoint you at all.

Rescue story : She is waiting for a chance at a forever family, until her time comes she dreams inside a cold cage on a concrete floor.

Adoption fee : 150,000 KRW KAPS adoption fee this includes her spay surgery.

CAN YOU SAY NO TO THOSE EYES?!

Adoptabullies, she's most definitely a greyhound. Maybe a mini greyhound? Is she full grown? I've never seen a whippet in Korea but they're popular in Japan.

What a beauty and personality to boot. :)

Yes I would be glad to meet anyone for any of our fantastic dogs ;) Anyone interested please submit your application to adoptbullies@gmail.com

Thanks Luvadog, I am pretty sure she is full grown by looking at her teeth which are young but not puppy teeth. But to be honest this is the first time I ever worked with a greyhound, so I am a bit unsure to be honest. I just trying to stay humble because I know others out there would know more than I. :p

This girl is still looking for her forever home or at least a foster home at this time. Right now she has a bit of a fever but being the weekend, we cant get to our vet until Monday to find out more info. But she is not eating normal, and her spirit seems to be less perky. Also, Greyhounds find it very difficult to lay on hard surfaces but in the shelter there is no soft surfaces available.

If you are able to foster her or are interested in adopting please let me know as soon as possible. I really would like to avoid her spirit breaking any further than what it has in the last few weeks.

Please research GH, you will find they are great apartment dogs that do not need alot of exercise. So, physically she is tall (big), but really this does not affect her ability to live in smaller spaces.

PM me or email at adoptbullies@gmail.com.

What about a Greyhound rescue in the States? Maybe the lady who adopted a Greyhound from Asan (I think it was Stormy?) and took the staghound I brought from the Daejeon shelter?

Is this one in any immediate danger of euthanasia? Given that they have eutanized without warning before, plz check with her and let us know asap. I'd hate for this to happen just because she's big...when people here in the States want to adopt Greyhounds and have the room. Any possible fosters?

Is this one in any immediate danger of euthanasia? No she is not endanger of being euthanized, but I worry that her needs are not being met right now. Most dogs adjust to the shelter within a couple of weeks but for her it seems to be weighing on her spirit.

We had a couple look at her yesterday, I am not sure of their decision. Hopefully they will at least write here on her profile their impressions of her.

The thing about the rescues is I need to get her in a foster home and get her well first, that way it is a safer gamble on coordinating her to the States.

Foster homes or adoptive home welcome but either way she is losing weight in the shelter and her spirit is broken please take this sweet girl in.

This picture was taken Sept 25th, compare it to the ones first taken when she came in (they are above). http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs704.snc4/62455_566369630402_184101994_32491478_1869956_n.jp g

She loves to lay on a fluffy blanket. In fact usually if you are just sitting in the office she will go over and just lay down, she doesnt even pay any attention to the smaller dogs. Greyhounds are great aparment dogs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greyhound#Greyhounds_as_pets).

We took her to the vet and then paid for her to get another check up and the vet says she has a lung infection and a bad cough. She needs a scarf and a warm coat and a temperture controlled home. She was given meds but they need to be monitered as greyhounds are quite sensitive to medication and they are not exactly sure what she has (due to limited testing). She is such a gentle spirit, but she is quite depressed and is extremely skinny right now. The shelter is a tough place for her and may end up killing her without proper care. Please help give this wonderful dog the medical care she deserves.

There is a very strong Grey Hound rescue circle in Canada. In addition to being a possibility for this sweet girl, they also provide a lot of information about Grey Hounds and their special needs.
http://www.canadasguidetodogs.com/hounds/gr_rescue.htm
I met with the folks in Nova Scotia - they do a TON of work to raise public awareness about the plight of race dogs and "novelty" breeds. They also bring their dogs to public events to encourage people to consider adopting a rescuee instead of buying from a breeder. This also shows how amazingly sweet and calm these beautiful dogs are.

We will utitlize it thoroughly. Fingers crossed I might have a foster home for this girl and that would buy us the time to coordinate with a N American rescue. Also, give her the chance to heal.

I'm not diagnosing, but that's the way it was with Punky's kennel cough. He had to wear a scarf because he needed heat around his neck. Had to wear a coat to keep warm. Could not be in the AC, but it was summer so it was on...just had to protect him from the cold air. Even today, he sleeps under the covers with me.

Is the greyhound outside? It's getting cold there and she shouldn't be breathing the cold air. Does she have a cozy bed? Good coat? Where can people send donations to cover that?

Todd

The volunteer got her a makeshift scarf and shirt the other day and they said they turned up the heat as well. She does have kennel cough, but it's a bit more advanced then you typically see. She most definitely needs to get out of the shelter. It's impossible for us to get out there before Saturday, so if someone can foster her please do otherwise we will arrange it for the weekend. If you live in Deagu stop by and give her lots of love and a warm blanket.

Awww...well, that sounds good for now. Punky had it really bad and almost died the first week I had him. He was really weak and not in good health with zero antibodies. They put him in an incubator with nebulizer and gave him plasma several times. Told me if he got distemper on top of it, he's a gonner-they couldn't save him. But he made it. The other yorkie from KARMA I got at the same time had a mild case (lot of hacking though) and got over it with minimal care with antibiotics at home.

Hope you can get her home with you right away and she gets well soon. She looks great if looks tell anything.

Well right now I think Todd and his wife are sponsoring her treatments. Thanks for the offer/inquiry.

But this girl (http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/forums/showthread.php?t=4567)could use donations. ;)

I hope I'm not misunderstanding anything. Todd--my perception is that you want to adopt her? If that's incorrect, please let me know. I'd like to adopt her but I'll wait to fill out the application until you post. I had two rescued greyhounds in the US and my mom is on her third. I can do this asap. Also, I'm willing to negotiate repaying vet expenses so far.

Jane 65401,

If you can adopt her that would be great. She needs a loving home and if she has companion greyhounds to live with that would be ideal. Please fill out the application and talk with Nicole as soon as possible. Hope everything works out. Please keep us posted either way.

Hi Caroline thanks for the offer but we are likely to secure an adoption today...will let you know asap.

However if you have experience socializing greyhounds we do have another one at our sanctuary that would benefit from fostering. email me at adoptbullies@gmail.com and we can discuss these things if you like.

thanks again for the offer though!

This sweet heart was adopted today. Her adopter came down on Saturday, joined our dog walk, spent the night with a volunteer where Sweetie also spent the night, and then up this morning to journey to Daejeon.

Her adopter said that she slept thru the night, only got up twice. When she got up she came over, smelled her (the adopter's) neck and went back and laid down basically she got up because she was wanting reassurance that she wasnt alone.

She didnt go in the house all night, and her adopter says she is just amazing, a very polite dog with great manners. I am sure we will see good pictures and detail update soon :D

As I write, she is asleep in her new, puffy, comfy bed, complete with fleece blanket (in case she gets cold). She had no problem with the stairs (which greyhound rescues frequently have), is completely house-trained, works very nicely on a leash and is just a polite, well-mannered girl. It is obvious she was someone's pet for quite awhile. I'm pretty darn glad she's mine now.
**tried to download some pics but I'm having trouble figuring it out. . .they'll come.

We took her to the vet and then paid for her to get another check up and the vet says she has a lung infection and a bad cough. Please help give this wonderful dog the medical care she deserves.

Right now she has a bit of a fever but being the weekend, we cant get to our vet until Monday to find out more info. But she is not eating normal.

We got word today Sweetie is not doing well. apparently the symptoms above that was noticed at the end of September turn-out to be distemper (which her vet did not test for until too late), on top of finding out she has heartworms. The adopter is heartbroken. Please remember her in your thoughts.

This is what she writes Sweetie went to the vet last Tues and, as you know, was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection, severe heartworms and about 6-7 kilos underweight. She was given the strongest dosage of anitobiotic possible for the URI. On Thurs, she started leaking heavy green mucus from her nose. It got worse over the next 2 days, even with the antibiotics.) In addition, she wasn't eating enough food to put on any weight. On Saturday morning, she stopped eating. By Saturday night, she was refusing water. On Sunday, I had to take her to an emergency clinic because she was becoming dehydrated. He gave her 2 higher-dose antibiotic shots and another 2 doses since I had a follow-up appointment scheduled for Monday with her vet. On Monday, when I took her to the appointment, she had refused food and water for over 24 hours. The vet put her on an IV drip and , for some reason, thought to do a distemper test (she didn't do this during the appointment last week because, as she stated, all shelters test for distemper because it is so contagious and usually fatal).

Sweetie has distemper. From the onset of symptoms, she got it at the shelter. I am so angry and heartsick, I don't even have the words to speak how abysmally this porr dog was treated at that shelter, in just 2 1/2 weeks. In addition to her other problems, no effort was made by the shelter to help her. I will do what is medically and emotionally necessary to help Sweetie.

I am thankful for people like Todd and his wife, and Jane. Both have been there for Sweetie when the shelter was unable. It is volunteers like these that help and fill the gap for dire situations. The shelter is only able to provide basic care, and because Todd was willing to step up, Sweetie did get medical attention while at KAPS. He, his wife and I advocated for the best possible conditions for her while at KAPS. And now she is with Jane. I believe in Jane's ability, desire and experience to take care of Sweetie but at the same time it is devasting.

Our heartfelt prayers and thoughts go out to Sweetie and Jane, we are here for you both in any way that we can be. Because Jane adopted a sick dog (which is not usually done but we felt like Jane was Sweetie's best possible hope of getting the care she needed because of her experience with rescueing greyhounds in the States), and now is caring for her in a way KAPS is not capable, I would like for us, the ARK community, to reach out and help Jane in anyway we can. Another volunteer and I are advocating to reimburse the adoption fee plus donation Jane made, to go towards medical expenses but has we all know emergency care can be quite expensive. :(

Thank you Todd and your family and Jane for giving Sweetie what we could not.

For now, I wanted everyone to keep Jane in your thoughts. Times like these are tough but it is a great community of ARK supporters that are here thru the tough times that makes it a bit easier to cope with.

Sincerely, Nicole

Sofia

I would change the vet. The vet who didn't do distemper test with all of those symptoms...
Please fight. Did you try to do plasma? 3 days, 1 shot per day.
And force her to drink, give her water with spoon, often.
Find something what smells delicious - canned tuna, boiled chicken, raw meat, something - she needs an energy. If she doesn't eat, force her to drink chicken broth, spoon by spoon.

Sofia is right. Plasma every day. That's what saved Punky when I got him. That, and i.v. fluids, nutrition, antibiotics, nebulizer and incubator.

I know the love you feel because I only had Punky for a week (but was in love with him 2 weeks before that from a KARMA shelter pic) and was begging the vet to do everything to save him. It's just so painful. Being with her every day means a lot in her recovery as well. Now she has you and a lot of prayers going up for her. She can make it!

BTW....It was MACRO vets (Dr. Won and others) who saved Punky when he was close to death. Can you get there yet??? It's Wolpyeong exit on the subway. Here's their number again. 042-486-3375/3391. Dr. Eom (pronounced Um) speaks the best English. Dr. Won saved Punky and explained everything he was doing, drew pics, made sure I understood...but is shy about English.

When Lassie was sick and they thought it was distemper (but tested neg) he set the i.v. port and I gave the injections of fluids every day at home. Hers was probably something like the flu with a high temp but they offered the best of care.

I think a taxi is the best way to get her there. Just say Wolpyeong dong Emata, MACALO dong-mul byeong-won (animal hospital.) Right next to Emart on the same side of the big road.

Drip ice into her mouth. I was told to do that for my sheltie when I was a teen, and she was barely conscious. She will lick it almost in her sleep. Macro has some special food in a tuna size can but I can't remember the name. Most dogs will eat it when nothing else appeals to them but it's about $4/can. I spoon fed Punky in the incubator. It's soft and mushy. You can also blend up some chicken breasts into mush with some extra flavoring. Hamburger is easily digested.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. It's a handful, but....You can do this.:(

Have you ever heard of people who were told they had hours to live, and it took a weeks for that special person to come for a last visit? They hold on to say good-bye for now, but see you on the other side. You are that special person, Jane. She waited for you with all her strength and she will see you at the end of the rainbow. Jane, I am so sorry for you and your sweetie.
I just went through loosing my beloved Jayoo after just a few months as well. It is gut-wrenchingly heart breaking. So unfair and cruel.
I can only offer you the same comfort that has been offered to me - she died having a loving home and people who truly care for her. Better that than it be in a shelter.
Not much comfort I know, but it is true.
It is a terrible loss that we didn't bank on. My apartment is a mess - I'm a mess....
Again, so sorry. Maybe Jayoo and Sweetie are playing together somewhere.
