You may have trouble flying with them at Christmas I think that there is a blackout:( but I'm so happy that you will take in another one, I came here with NO intention of getting another dog, but now I have three:) but they are so small I think that they should only count as one:)

Well, the only blackout times I saw were June 1- Sept 15 because of high temperatures...

Maybe that was jsut for Air Canada? I'm not sure...I think it was because it is so busy. Still there are ways around that.

Be aware!!! There is a winterstop as well for all animals and the Korean airport
will not accept any pet on flights.
I am not sure when the winterstop starts but I think at the end of dec until March.
Please check airport info or contact Maya/Gina from petairline.
They will be more than helpful to answer your questions.

That is so retarded. I really doubt I can afford to fly Louise home at Christmas and then back to Korea with petairline... its too expensive.

Wow, I didn't know the blackout periods were so long! But I guess it does make sense with the temperature extremes at those times.
Are the blackout periods because the temperatures would be too cold/hot if the dog was waiting on the tarmac before being loaded? I don't see it being a problem once in the plane, since it should be temperature controlled, right?

I've never flown a dog overseas before. The only experience I've had is flying an Inuit sled dog down from the arctic in winter. She had few issues with it being cold, since she lived outside while up north. It would be the heat that would get to her.

I hope you can find a way to get yourselves all home for Christmas, alibuch!

Alibuch please make a call first because I am not sure which month it starts
it might be around end of januari/februari.

@Mischief, yes they do this because those months temperatures can be
extremely cold. Animals has to wait outside like lugage until the airplane arrives
and sometimes on a delay so they do it to protect your animal.

is this also true for animals carried on?

There are no blackout dates if the animal is carried on. However, the weight limit is very low (I think 6kg) and Louise is now 10kg (she's gained 2kg since I got her from the shelter... the vet told me last night she needs a diet)... regardless though, since she isn't a seeing-eye dog then I can't bring her on board. I can't go 4 years without going home but I also can't board her in a kennel for two months either. Bllllleeehhhh.
Pukka: my school break would be Dec. 22- Feb 22 so even if it didn't start until January, I'd have problems getting her back. haha Poo.

Good news... Sorta. I just called United Air (which is probably who I'll fly with) and they said that if it gets under 45 degrees the airport can deny the animal to fly but it usually has to be realllly cold before they do that. She said it's most dependent on the projected temperatures of the city my layover is in since she'll have to sit on the tarmac for a bit while luggage is being transferred.

I think the blackout dates must be for Canada only because I've checked a few airline sites and there seems to only be blackout dates in summer for flying from here to the States...

So what about this summer I am done on July 9th, I can't fly with Air Canada, so it will be Sinapore Air, my friend flew her dog out in August, so what is the deal with the embargo? It is going to be a huge pain to get my dogs home, even Petairlines doesn't directly deal with my city back home so they would have to be changed over in Vancouver, I may just fly to toronto and have my sisters drive me home, this is so complicated. I hope Air Canada loses tons of money over their stupid anti-pet policy!

Well, from what I have read... I understand it to be that no pets can fly from Korea between June 1 and September 15. At least with American airline companies... They said it's due to the high temps. If it's going to be over 85 degrees in Seoul or at any city where there is a layover, the airline refuses to fly the pet as cargo. If you're bringing the dog as a carry-on there are no restrictions except the animal must be under 6kg

I hadn't heard of the summer blackout period, but we flew out of Incheon to Toronto where it isn't overly hot. We did the same flight (with 1 or 2 dogs) 3 times, always late June or July, but rules are getting stricter for pet travel it seems.

Two ways you can try to get around it:
-take a direct flight, if possible. Then the only tarmac time is loading and disembarking.
-align your departure/arrival with early morning or evening hours, when the temperature is coolest.

Lucky for us, we got evening flights which arrived in Canada also in evening.

I was checking out some flights for Christmas time and a direct flight from Incheon to Cincinnati (where I'm from) was just under $2000... which is how much a flight is anyway. That makes me more comfortable anyway... I'm scared of my baby getting lost! haha

Does any one know what Air Canada's policy is, there website says that they will fly animals on international flights, but the travel agent said that they won't. I am flying to regina, sk. I would have to content in Vancouver but do you think that they would not allow them to go on the second part of the flight because it isn't international? Even though it is the final part of an international trip? Also you can only take 2 dogs right? But that is for space right, so what if you have a big crate and two dogs inside, could I still bring Bibi carry-on?

From what I understood is that you can bring a dog per person as luggage
under your seat. They will never alow 2pets in one crate unless the pet
is 3months or younger and they must have the same age.
I don't know anything about the 6KG maximum,most airlines won't accept
a pet on the cabin when the pet is more than 4KG INCLUDING the carrier.
The good thing is that you can use a soft carrier for a small 2/3KG dog/cat.

I wanted to have my maltese with me in the cabin and he is 3KG but he is
too heavy as the carrier is more than 1KG.

Though your dog in the cargo hold doesn't have a weight limit. And you don't
pay as much as a cargo flight.
For any bigger dog I would choose for this option. Its not too expensive either.
Over the $200 (240 or so)for a dog about 7KG
