Hi all,

There will be a meeting of volunteers this Sunday, May 27th at 10:30am who are headed to a shelter in Yuseong Gu, Daejeon to help the animals.

I've never been to this shelter before, but my student was researching local places for me to volunteer at and found this privately-run place. Through my student, the shelter manager has invited me and my friends to join them this Sunday. I need to let them know in advance how many people I am bringing. The shelter location is kept private, but please contact me if you are interested in coming along and I will tell you the meeting point.

If joining, please prepare:

-disposable gloves
-your lunch & water
-comfortable clothes
-your personal belongings!

I hope many people will come along and help take care of some needy, homeless animals in Daejeon.

Hello Lt. Com. Lee! I'm so glad to have met you and your wife! I'm glad, too, that you found my website :)

Log-in/Registration is only needed if you are using the forums, or adding an animal to the adoption listing. For leaving a comment on the main page or just reading, there is no need to register. But I'm very happy you did!

if it possible, you give more help to the dogs shelter.
Yes, I hope to return to the shelter very soon. I know other people who want to come with me next time, too. Hopefully more people together can do more work next time!

I'll show you the website, the members who helped the dogs shelter. http://cafe.daum.net/dogsbackhome

My student told me about that website, but he forgot to give me the address... Thanks for sharing the link.

Unfortunately, the site won't load on my computer at home (maybe because I use a Mac, ?). When I go to my office tomorrow, I will check the pictures of your five dogs. They are very lucky to find a home with you!

I will definitely call you and your wife when I need help. I am sure, too, that I will need help!

Lt. Com. Lee!! Thank you so much for the translations. It's so helpful of you!!!!

I see they are a little different from the translations Greg posted here: http://www.lonelylifetime.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=50

Is the meaning the exactly the same, or is the feeling/tone different?

In your opinion, which sentences are the most powerful for Korean people? I mean, which sentence will have the most effect in Korea? I want to make posters and put them everywhere!

Also, I wonder...how can we ask the mayor of Daejeon to build a bigger animal shelter in this city? And promote adoption and spay/neuter? Does your cafedaum group of animal helpers ask the government for help?

Thanks so much for your help!

Hi Karen

I think you mentioned in your first post re the shelter in Daejon that they weren't able to keep track of which dogs had received what injections as they didn't have a computer.

Would a second hand computer help? I'm sure I can round one up at work.

Let me know.

Cheers
Tim

Lt. Com. Lee,

I saw your dogs on the site when I was at work today (my student let me use his ID and password). They're so lovely. Very very sweet!

Also, what do you think about Tim's idea? Could the Daejeon shelter use a second-hand computer? Do the Chungnam University volunteers have a record of the vaccinations/ treatment they have given the dogs at the shelter, maybe at their school? Is there any system (ID collars, tatooing, microchips) to identify the dogs?

Sorry for all the questions!

Karen

Tim,

It turns out that Chungnam National University only visits this shelter about twice per year. None of the dog have been tested for heartworm disease and none of them are taking prevatative. This shelter is in the countryside and I'm sure it's just ripe with mosquitoes.

Any ideas on how to go about getting a massive donation of heartworm preventative?

Yikes!
