Does anyone know the rules on taking turtles back to the States on the plane. When I went home before they were not allowed and unfortunately I lost her. The ticket agent said he'd take her home to his kids but I'll never know.

I have 2 now. Most get dumped in the rivers when they're big but they are actually American sliders and indiginous to N.America. They are a pest here and they will kill them off in the rivers or eat them, so it's not the best to release them into the environment here.

I had called CDC in Atlanta before my trip home 2 yrs ago. She said sure, you can bring back 7 as long as it's not commercial and they're over a certain size. But the airlines don't allow it.

So how do you ship them? Ice????

If CDC said it's possible, then I'd guess you just have to find the right airline... Hm...

There are some pet travel links that might be helpful for you here, (http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/links/browselinks.php?c=1) (or from the site navigation choose Resources then Pet Travel). The Sherpa Pet site has a list of airlines, brief summaries of their regulations, and their contact info. Hopefully at least one of the airlines will allow turtles :(

Hello,

Turtles cannot be carry-on or excess baggage as I know..(Usually dog/cat/small house bird can be accepted) So you should ship them as a manifested cargo, and each states have a bit different rules.. In case of the California, they accept any size of the sliders if they are coming to CA as a non commercial but there is a limitation of the quantity.. We shipped 2 turtles (almost over 20cm) to LAX and they were arrived there safety and they are having great life there as I know! :) Anyways if you can give me some details of them (exact size of the shell, common name, scientific name) then I may check it with my partner in US.. that will be more exact.

And also for shipping, they will need special package. We can help you with that..

Thanks :-)

Hey Gina, Thanks! I have 2 in my aquarium right now and both are growing like a weed...about 4X5 cm shell size. One has an orange belly but neither have the red ear. If I stay here, and it looks like I will, I'll get more because they are usually killed and eaten or eliminated from the rivers because of being a pest. CDC said 2 yrs ago the limit was 7 but I read yesterday on the US Embassy site the limit is 6 now. Yeah, tell me more about the shipping. Is there a website? Do you need anything from the vet or wildlife people? Usually they're only worried about salmonella. They are so cute. My aquarium is beside my computer and they come up and beg all the time. When I wave or even look at them, they try to swim out of and bite the glass.

Gina, Are you with Petairlines? What's your number? I need to keep it on file for emergencies or if I have to leave Korea for any reason. I'm still having trouble with my last hogwon and I'll be getting real nasty real soon now...like a police report for his stealing my belongings and an official report to the Labor Commission. At that point he will cancel my visa but as far as I know I can stay on a visitors' visa. I would die a thousand deaths if I lost my dog.
