Animal Name : Blackey
City/Location : Daegu
Breed : Suggested breed: Maltipoo
Sex : female
Spayed / Neutered : not sure
Age : young
Size : probably about 5kg
Health status/ vaccinations : appears healthy, vaccines will be adopters responsbility
Behaviour/Personality : Blackey is a great little dog, he loves people and children. He is rather calm in his cage, rarely barking, but out of his cage he loves to play. He would be great in a one dog house-hold as he doesnt easily get along with other dogs. HOWEVER, we do think with the right owner that is willing to take time and socialize him this could change. Can you give blackey the family he seeks?

This weekend I finished shaving him, he came to the shelter with half of his coat gone and the other half as long as can be on his bottom. He did well, as he was very calm, considering he is the first dog I have ever cut!

Rescue story : Waiting at KAPS, hoping is time doesnt run out.
Adoption fee:
* 50,000KRW if you spay yourself with your vet
* 100,000 KRW if you would like us to spay before you adopt

this is playful, hand-shaking Blackey. He is a very sweet dog, LOVES any attention truly, but he isnt so good with other dogs right now, so he needs a special understanding owner that can help him overcome this. In the mean time he will give you lots of love, hand-shakes and play time ;)

What a cutie! He has very emotive eyes. In the picture with him on a walk, he looks smaller than I thought he was. Good luck to Blackey, I hope you find your person soon!

What a great dog. I'm guessing he's a maltipoo. And I love the haircut.:)

You know the funny thing about her hair is the back half grows faster than the front half. We have no idea why. When she came to the shelter her lower back fur was longer, so I cut her the best I could. Which she was my first so it isnt perfect ^^ However after a couple of weeks, it has grown out the same way again

funny stuff :D

Maybe she likes to keep her pants on too. :D Like my maltese. But have you checked her skin? Maybe she has a little dermatitis.

That's funny that half of her hair grows faster than the rest, maybe she prefers to wear Hammer pants (http://images.complete-costumes.co.uk/fancy-dress-costume.php/i/733/t/0/n/Mens-1980s-MC-Hammer-%27Can%27t-Touch-This%27-Costume.jpg).
Any good news about her?

Not yet, thanks for asking Jeju. I wish someone would step forward to foster her. I think she would be a great dog especially with some reinforcement.

We did discover that she isnt neccesarily dog aggressive. She wants to be alpha but this doesnt equal aggressive. Now in the first few minutes of meeting another dog, she sounds aggressive. Hence the reason we assumed, but working with her this weekend I found out more.

As we all know dogs like to establish order asap. Pretty much after all the but sniffing, one dog will come out on top...literally. The dog that stands over another dog is considered the dominate one (roughly paraphrased). Well, Blackey wants to skip the handshaking (butt sniffing) and go straight to standing over. And she does sound really mean at first. But give her 5 seconds and the mean hello gets quite and she is only standing on the other dog

So with the right dog she could make a great friend ;) (two alphas are a no go, but an alpha and a passive would be ok)

The great thing though she is GREAT with people, and in the park she is great with children. She has lots of energy and doesnt seem to get nervouse by loud commotions.

We shaved and bathed her this weekend, and I had some great pics and videos, unfortunately my memory card picked up a virus from Emart's photo center, so all of my pics are gone :(:( the sad thing is these dogs have a time limit and I need to update and cant :(

Anyhow, blackey is still available she isnt agggressive, but she does have alpha tendacies. Please consider making her your baby ;)

Any word on Blackey? I know she has been a the shelter for a while, so I hope she is ok...

At the Ugidongmul (http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/gallery/browseimages.php?c=27) shelter I met a dog that I think looks like her younger (and more passive) sister :p

I hope the both of them get a good home soon.

I went to the shelter yesterday and saw him there. Took him out the cage, cuddled him a little. He is currently in a cage with another dog at the moment, so maybe he is improving. :)?

This is a gorgeous dog. All she needs is a good haircut and some TLC with a forever home. Please, someone consider this little girl. She looks like a Maltipoo to me and kinda like a black Toby...Toby is my avatar.

This is what Sunnan wrote Blacky rescued near Bukbi Mountain rotary on 17 March.
At the time of rescue, we had hard time to cut Blacky’s hair as it was tangled like a rock while living as a stray cat for long time. Blacky had been sick for long time, but she overcame thanks to her cheerful character, and was adopted to a foreigner Kate after living four months in shelter.

You can find the orginal adoption story here: http://www.koreananimals.or.kr/zboard_en/zboard.php?id=adoption&page=1&sn1=&divpage=1&sn=off&ss=on&sc=on&select_arrange=headnum&desc=asc&no=223

We received bad news today. I was especially fond of Blackey (renamed Gecko). To be honest I dont know why. I never got to spend more than an hour once every two weeks with her, but still there was something special that attracted me to her. Maybe it was because she looked so odd and I feared she would never find a home. But she did and I am SO very glad she found such a great home in her short life. :(:(:( This is what her adopter wrote:

Sad sad news. Blackey (who I renamed Gecko) died from liver failure last weekend. She seemed perfectly fine and she'd been to the vet twice since I got her to get checkups and vaccinations and they didn't pick up on anything. I let her out of her crate on Sunday morning and she moved all her toys onto my bed like she always did and then curled up and went back to sleep. When I got up she tried to jump off the bed to follow me and just collapsed onto the floor. I rushed to the vet and they x-rayed her and did blood tests and found out that her liver was only half working and her heart was way smaller than it should have been. She had a huge amount of ammonia built up because her broken liver couldn't get rid of it but the vet seemed to think he could save her and treat her liver problems so he put an IV in and had her in the incubator but she only lasted a few hours. The vet seemed to think it was a genetic problem and that bad things had been building up in her system over a long time and it had finally got too a tipping point.

She was a super awesome dog, way better than I was expecting. I thought it would take a lot to get her toilet trained and well behaved but she was pretty much toilet trained from the start as long as she got to go out a couple of times a day. She was great on the lead and learnt more than 20 tricks in the time I had her (she could open the bathroom door and turn off the lamp even) She didn't bark unless someone knocked on the door and didn't chew anything she shouldn't. My house feels really empty now that shes gone.

I thought I should let you know. Thanks for helping me get such a great dog :)

I know in rescuing you are saving broken dogs and death is a reality of that, but this one is extra hard for me this time around. Maybe in was the unknown attraction, maybe it was knowing that she reached great heights in her new home, or maybe knowing that she got such a great home...I dont know, but whatever it is Blackey/Gecko will be missed. :(

Poor Gecko...Once again, we need to find peace in the fact that some people gave her a chance to die in a home, with love.
I hope she is a happy little one now and that she watches over her special helpers...
