Hi all - thanks for your posts!

Firstly - Scarlet13 / rachaelg / Kharma, we would love to have you along on our trip this Saturday. For anyone coming from Seoul, we meet at Seoul train station at 8.30am in order to catch the 9.00am KTX train to Daejeon, which takes almost exactly an hour. Anyone making their own way to Daejeon - we meet at Daejeon train station between 10.00 and 10.15 am

One caveat this week is that, because of lunar new year and the fact that the whole of Korea is travelling, I wil have to check tomorrow morning that we can in fact get tickets on Saturday's KTX (I only thought of this earlier this morning...) Will let everyone know tomorrow if its definitely on. In the meantime if you could confirm for me whether you are coming from Seoul on Saturday (assuming I can get tickets) then I will book them tomorrow just to be sure.

Mandy - you will normally have no problems taking a small dog with you on the train, bus or taxi if you have them in a dog carrier. We have taken 5 dogs back to Seoul at the same time on the KTX (including the Jindo adopted by Luis) all were in carry cages and we had no issues. I can lend you a carrier if you need one, I'll bring a couple with me on Saturday.

Cheers
Tim

Hi all

I booked 10 tickets for the 9.05am KTX from Seoul to Daejeon this Saturday, so we should be all set for this weekend's trip.

If you could confirm for me who is attending (and if you're bringing friends with you) and also whether you intend to meet us at Seoul (at 8.30am) or Daejeon (at 10.00am) stations I would be appreciative.

Cheers
Tim

Hi Tim and Annie,

My husband and I are trying to organize a group from Osan to help volunteer at the Daejeon Shelter. We emailed a flier out to my husbands work and we're crossing our fingers that we get a few people to help out. If not, you can count on my husband and I to be there to help out on the 16th. Also, we recently adopted a mini schnauzer from Ryan a week ago and we were wondering if we can bring him along to the shelter as well. Will there be someone to bring us to the shelter once we get off from Daejeon station? If there will be another volunteer group going on that day can we tagalong?:) What time would be a good time to meet up at the Daejeon station? Thanks so much. We look forward to hearing from you.

V/R,
Bernie, Rich, and Chopper

Hi Bernie, Rich & Chopper!

I will definitely be there on the 16th, Lt Comm Lee from the Korean Navy (a very nice man who does a lot of volunteer work at the shelter) normally gives us a lift to the shelter from Daejeon station, combined with a couple of taxis.

Yes, you're most welcome to bring your schnauzer with you (Chopper I assume?) - best if you bring a carry cage as well in case we need to catch a taxi on the way there. The KTX from Seoul normally gets to Daejeon around 10.00am, so we can meet you just after 10.00 if that suits you.

Let me know prior to the 16th if you're definitely coming along (and how many of you there are) and we will be sure to wait for you at Daejeon station.

Cheers
Tim

Hi Bernie and Rich,

Just a reminder about bringing Chopper to the shelter. Did he complete all
his vaccinations? You adopted him recently so I was just wondering.

I'm should be bringing four friends up on the 16th, they are all looking to adopt/foster:)

Is it a good idea to bring Bibi to the shelter so that she can meet potential foster siblings first, we were going to leave her home, and I guess she knows most of them already but still good idea or not?

Can we come up this week since i'm on vacation? or do we have to wait until Sat?

Hey Tim,

Chopper has an appt. at the Vet clinic on the 11th of Feb for his first rabies shot. Will it be okay to take him? Also, we have four people so far that signed up to volunteer on the 16th...whoohooooo!:)

Hi Bernie and Rich,

Just a reminder about bringing Chopper to the shelter. Did he complete all
his vaccinations? You adopted him recently so I was just wondering.

As far as I know Bibi was up to date on her shots so it won't be a problem to
take her. Just be aware that there is no ''clean'' spot under a roof to let her relax
while you are busy picking up another dog.

She lived outside so actually she doesn't know the other dogs but Bibi used to
love everybody anyway so that won't be a problem ;)
Maybe she will remember her parents, they are still there.

I would bring her,its OK. But when she gets home you should have extra
deworm pils ready because she can catch that there easily.
Mrs Jung from the shelter will be very pleased to see her again :D

@ Rabies shots works 3weeks after giving the vaccination!
But there is no rabies at the shelter though other shots like distemper/parvo
are more important than the rabies.
Make sure that if people bring their dogs that all those vaccinations are
complete.

Hi all

Apologies for the delay in replying to you.

Scarlet13:
- If you're still coming along tomorrow you're most welcome, in terms of things to bring food/treats and/or harnesses/collars/leashes are always helpful (to help take dogs for walks - quite a few inadvertantly go astray from adoptions and fosters).
- I think Annie is away this week on her holidays, so apologies if you weren't able to arrange a visit to the shelter during the week.
- You're welcome to bring Bibi, although if you need to leave her on her own for a period of time while you walk the other dogs hopefully she will be ok with that (otherwise you can just carry her around with you).
- The reason I know Bibi is up-to-date with her shots is that (for some reason) I have her vet/immunisation book here with me. I have no idea why I still have it, but I will bring it with m on Saturday for your records.
- I also recomend taking a change of clothes and footwear with you, it can get a bit muddy at the shelter this time of year (especially if some of the dogs take a liking to you :)

Teamq:
- In hindsight I would concur with Pukka, it is probably best if Chopper completes all his immunisations before coming to the shelter. We have never had any cases of any serious disease with any of the shelter dogs (eg parvo, kennel cough, distemper or anything like that) but it's probably best to be sure that all dogs that visit have completed their vaccinations. Please also ensure Chopper gets his monthly Heartguard + Frontine or Revolution, we have only had 2 of the 90+ shelter dogs that we have adopted or fostered test positive for heartworm but it's still a risk.
- Once you have finalised numbers for the 16th please let me know and we will be sure to wait for you at Daejeon station - thanks again for organising this group trip :)

JenRows:
- You're welcome to come on Saturday, I'll put a KTX ticket aside for you if you can confirm you're definitely coming. Look forward to seeing you again on Saturday morning!

Cheers
Tim

Hi Tim,
Looks like there will only be 4 of us helping out at the shelter this weekend (February 16). We will meet you at the Daejeon train station at 10am. From there, are we taking a taxi to the shelter? Also, is there a link online that tells you how to get to the Daejeon station from Songtan station? Thanks Tim. We'll see you this weekend!:)

I have a friend who wants to adopt but he works Saturday can someone meet us on Sunday? He may have a few people coming with him as well, so it would be anywhere from 3 to 7 people.

Scarlet, I would be able to take you there (since I live in Daejeon) if we confirm and all. On which Sunday would it be?

Hi Teamq

Look forward to meeting the 4 of you tomorrow morning at Daejeon station then, we will keep an eye out for you. If you are running late or get a little lost please give me a call on my mobile 010 8940 5233.

In terms of getting to Daejeon station from Songtan station I'm afraid I really have no idea. I have only ever travelled to Daejeon from Seoul. If you have any Korean friends perhaps you could ask them to call Korail for you to source that information? Otherwise Annie or Pukka may have some idea given they live in Daejeon (although I'm not really sure how far away Songtan is...)

See you tomorrow!

Cheers
Tim

Hey Tim,

I just sent you an email and didn't know you had replied back to this forum. We'll be driving out there instead because we have some goodies for the dogs. We'll meet you at the daejeon train station at around 10am and follow you guys from there to the shelter. We'll give you a call when we're close to the train station. See you tomorrow!:)

Hi Tim and Annie,

My husband (Rich) and our friends had an awesome time with the dogs yesterday. I'm sorry I wasn't able to make it. I caught a fever and was really upset that i couldn't make it. I hope the bags of food and treats will last for awhile at the shelter. Any word yet if the shelter will officially close down at the end of the month? I heard that the shelter has asked for another extension...I will definitely visit the shelter as soon as this bug goes away. Again, my husband really enjoyed volunteering and meeting you guys. You guys are awesome!! We'll keep in touch.

Bernie, Rich, and Chopper (our dog:) )
