Here it comes: we need money.... :(
We ran out of donations for the shelter and now have to pay for everything ourselves (with the help of adopters and foster homes of course).
Plus, we rescued 4 puppies from the pound today, but 2 of them unfortunately tested positive for parvo...As they are young and vulnerable, we need a really good treatment. Plus, since the 2 others were in the same litters, so we need to get them all treated just in case...
The total is actually quite huge, and we thus need help.
If all of us could chip in a little, you know that we could get quite a good amount already.
Please consider it and let me know if you can help.
Thanks,

Hey everyone,
as Annie said, we rescued four puppies (about 2-3 months) from a very bad circumstance at the pound in Daejeon. Two unfortunately tested positive for Parvo. Two of them tested negative, however, parvo takes 8-10 days to show up, and is easily transmittable through dogs through feces. It is a very strong virus that can live outside of a body or host for up to 8 months, and can withstand extreme cold and heat, making it a very dangerous virus. We have since brought the pups up to Seoul for treatment.
For those of you who do not know, parvo is a very serious doggie virus that dogs, especially puppies with an inadequate immune system, can easily acquire. It is similar to panleukemia in cats. What the parvo virus does is it attacks cells in the body, and causes them to split rapidly, so in essence, it attacks the blood cells, etc. It starts primarily in the intestinal tract, which leads to severe dehydration, diarrhea, loss of blood in the bowel movements, loss of appetite, and severe doggy flu. It can also affect the heart muscle, and the dog can just drop dead in an instant.
If not treated right away, a puppy can die within 3-5 days, so we must act fast! What the vet will do is put them on an iv for dehydration, fight the virus with antiviral meds, and, often times, blood transfusions are needed. They must also stay in warm enclosures, be fed very often, and receive some TLC. If treated, 80% of puppies survive, but if not, 80% of puppies die. The ones that do survive without treatment have a poor, very weak body, and a sad life. If treated, although the dog will be a little weaker, it can have a very close to normal life!
As Annie said, the treatments are very expensive, and I will not divulge that here. If you want to donate, and really want to know, I will be happy to discuss the doggy details with you. If everyone can find it in their hearts to pitch in maybe 10,000 won, we would have a good start on these treatments, and be able to work to get these pups healthy again. Please consider this, as no puppy should have to endure this.
Thanks!

How does this work? Do we send money to KAPS and they'll distribute the money to a specific shelter or can we send the money to Annie or Ryan for the Daejeon Shelter? My husband and I would like to help out and donate. Thanks so much.
just an update on the puppies. I talked to the vet today where we are treating the puppies, and here is their situation. We have two Jindo puppies, and two mixed puppies getting treatment. They all are getting iv treatment, and being administered drugs. The two mix pups and the larger Jindo are responding well to treatment so far, but we still need to be very careful these next 3-5 days, which are crucial. The fourth (smaller jindo) is in quite rough shape, and has developed vomiting, diarrhea, and blood within the the diarrhea. We are still optimistic about him, but she is at a very sick point, and it is about 30-50% chance that she will survive. If she can make it a few more days, she should be ok. The next 2 days are very crucial.
After treatment, they will have to be quarantined for at least one month, because the virus, unlike other viruses, can live outside of a host for a very long time, and it is difficult to kill the virus (bleach works the best, but it still can sometimes withstand bleach, tough little bugger).
Let's hope that these pups pull through. They are the sweetest things!

Here are pics of 2 of the 4 puppies from their train trip to Seoul. They are lovely little pups, hopefully they will pull through (although as Ryan said the littlest white one isn't doing so well). The white one on my lap is the larger of the two and is a little girl. The black & wite pup is also a little girl. They will be looking for homes in about a month once they have recovered (once they have finished treatment they will be completely healthy).

Just to clarify: This site is not affiliated with KAPS (although we are friends with them :) ), so donations to KAPS stay with KAPS, and they do a great job. The efforts through this informal expat group (also doing a great job, I might add) are more of a grassroots affair. We rely mostly on other expats' donations.
Thanks SO much for wanting to help out!

CLARIFICATION!!
We do need a lot of money for all the animals we rescue, so any money will be used toward them.
HOWEVER, those of you who want to donate for the 4 sick puppies specifically: don't send the money into Dr. Lee's account.
The puppies are at Tim's vet in Seoul and if the money is transferred into Dr. Lee's account, we won't be able to use it toward the pups.
Contact Tim or myself for donations.

hahaha I can't read. Sorry... Dr. Lee. But yes... I'll do the transfer at the bank at the end of this week.
Gemma... take a Korean person with you (someone from your school if you're a teacher)... it's really easy to do the account transfer, takes like 3 minutes.

We also have a paypal donation button on this website for whom it is more convenient. The link hasn't been moved yet from the previous website (or I missed it), so you need to go to:
http://www.lonelylifetime.com/
The paypal donate button is now on this site, too.
