With the first "real" snow we got yesterday in Seoul (which didn't last long), I've realized that Louise is just going to be a right mess all winter if I don't get her groomed. The fur on cocker's legs is so long... If I keep in her a sweater when I take her out, would it be okay to just get her shaved? I'm going to end up having to bathe her everday...
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hi alibuch,
The groomer my mom uses here in Canada told her that snow clinging to longer fur makes a dog colder than if the fur is trimmed. She gets her schnauzer scissor-cut so that the fur stays short (2cms-ish) and she puts on a sweater & boots when necessary (under about -10C). I followed suit for our first Canadian winter.
I never found a single groomer in Daejeon that wouldn't buzz cut my poor dog and make her completely bald (what is up with that???), but if you can find someone to scissor cut your spaniel that might be a nice compromise for winter.

Sounds great. Looks like I'll be investing in some doggie shoes when I pick Louise up from the groomer today.

Scissor cut is what I prefer as well eventhough it is more expensive
its OK since you need this cut only for winter.
If you say'' groom my dog but not too short or not bald'' groomers
here will say'' no we can't''
You have to say yourself that you want the scissor cut and I discovered
recently that it works fine after they bald my dogs for 2years pffffffffffffff!!!!
By the way,we had 3 days of snow in Daejeon during new years and my dogs
has long hair as well but you don't have to shower your dog every day.
Make sure you have a dry towel by the door and rub the dog toweldry and clean.
Then use your hair dryer ;)

Well... I took her to the groomer. I called my Korean coworker, explained what I wanted done, and she translated. They just kept telling me no. Then they asked if I wanted her shaved. I gave up and said just give her a good bath. I bought her some dog shoes but she walks soooo funny with them and she really hates them.

Very strange,I think you have to find a better groomer. The independend
grooming salons can usually do the scissor cut.
I don't go to groomers at a pet clinic.
I found a good one who does whatever I ask here in Daejeon ;)
By the way, the Emart clinic would do the spaying
for 140.000won (only for rescued dogs) usually he ask more for bigger dogs.

Do all Emart clinics do the spaying for that price? I know there's an Emart clinic near me.

You should ask but I am afraid prices are not the same.
Emart vets has nothing to do with the store.
The vet rent the place from Emart.
I spayed a small dog at another vet,the dog was only 2KG
and we paid 205.000 won.
I am almost sure that you have to pay more for a Cocker Spaniel.

I think I'll just wait. I'll only have to go through one time in heat with Louise while I'm here and then I can get her fixed at home. I trust the place my sister used so it's worth the wait to me...
A friend pointed out that I treat Louise like my child... so I've gotta go where I trust 'em right? lol

Just want to share with you what I discovered last time when it was snowing again.
When I came to the house with the dogs I took a small tub just enough for the legs.
I filled it with warm water(not too warm) and put their legs in it and the snow melts right away. Then dry the dog with a ready towel and done! It was just so amazing!Try it next year ;)
