Hi all,

Here and in the posts below are some explanations of photo-related features and problems in the ARK forums.

The Adoption Listings' Thumbnail Feature The little image on the listing index page is created from the first attachment of the first post. You can also use [img] tags to post pictures, but they will not appear as thumbnails. Attach at least one good, clear image to your adoption listing.
The thumbnail feature is only being used in the Adoptable Animals and Donations sections, not in other forums on the site.
IMPORTANT!
Images bigger than 800x800 pixels will not upload. You will have to resize them. Here are a couple of websites where you can resize photos for free:

http://www.drpic.com/

If you are having trouble, email me or post here!

Removing an image from a post

Click Edit on the post you want to change.

Scroll down and click Upload/Manage Files (in the Attach Files box).

In the box which pops us, you will see a list of the images already attached. Next to each there is a button which says Remove (you may have to make the box wider).

Click Remove.

Attach new images on this page by following steps 4 & 5, above. Don't forget to click Save Changes on the main page.

So, in brief:
Edit > Upload/Manage Files > Remove > [Upload new if needed] > Save Changes.

How to post images within a post (not as an attachment)

1. Upload your photo to an image hosting site. Two examples are:

www.tinypic.com (http://www.tinypic.com/)
http://photobucket.com/

* Facebook is not an image hosting site; this method fails with Facebook images.

2. Follow the instructions of the image hosting website.

Size options are usually given at the time of uploading.

Select 640x480 or 600x800.

Large photos cause problems with layout on this forum. Do not select a size larger than 600x800 or leave your large photos as is.

Once your image is ready, you will be presented with various lines of code that you can copy & paste into your post.

3. Select the code that is for "forums/message boards".The code has tags around it and looks like this:

[IMG] ... blah blah blah ...

4. Paste the line into your forum post and save.
An image will appear, like this:http://i46.tinypic.com/ked74g.jpg

If you have any questions, post here!

Are we allowed to just copy and paste like this?

Yep, that worked! I just mentioned the free hosting sites that I knew of.

The key is to surround the photo's URL with the tags. You can also use the "Insert Image" icon from the Reply toolbar to do the same thing:

Thanks for the tips ... I've had trouble in the past so I've just been pasting the images in from other sites.

COMMON ERROR: Quite a few people have been having trouble uploading photos recently, some have been getting an error that says "Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing".

While it's not always the case, the most common issue is simply that the photos are too large :(

SOLUTION: Resize your photos to a maximum of 800 pixels x 800 pixels and try again (640 x 480 is generally the best choice). See post #1 for free photo resizing websites.

If that doesn't work, you can also try:

Logging out of ARK and then logging back in
Using a different browser

Please post here if none of those things work and let me know the exact phrasing of the error message that you get. Thanks!

Resizing seems to help, thanks. Unfortunately the resizing process takes a long time. It's odd that the gallery was allowing me to upload four pictures at a time with no problem until recently.

I just tested and was able to upload 6 photos at once to the gallery. What error message did you get?

I got a few different ones but most recently it was "invalid code," or something like that. But sorry if I wasn't clear enough ... I didn't try adding the resized photos all together yesterday and just added them one by one after resizing them. What I mean is that until recently I could add four or five files at a time without any need for resizing. Resizing solved the problem.

Hmm, I don't know if this will be all that helpful to people, but you can also link to pictures in the ARK Gallery (http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/gallery/) by copying the "Direct Link Code" of a picture (http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/gallery/showimage.php?i=2150&c=26) (underneath the Description, Posted By, and Keywords), and putting that link in when you click on insert image, so, while editing your message, it ends up looking similar to this:
http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/gallery/files/1/9/6/2/ursa.jpg

but after you post your message it will come up like this:

http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/gallery/files/1/9/6/2/ursa.jpg

Would it be ok for people to link to pictures hosted on this site though, Karen?

Yes, that's perfect and photos end up the perfect size for layout, too!

Thank you jejudogs for sharing the tips with everyone!

This is weird ... I got a resizing tool and reduced everything to 800 X 600 but now I can't upload them ... not even one at a time. :(

Update: I managed to do it from home ... must have been a browser issue.
