Hello
We adopted a little dog from the KARMA shelter and brought her to Dr. Pet for her spay and vaccines. We have had her at least 3 weeks now. In the last couple days I noticed she was starting to smell... I kept checking her skin thinking it was a skin infection. Today I realized it is she is leaking a smelly discharge from her vagina. She stinks and it smells where ever she sits for awile. The smell is similar to me to the smell from pyometra but the leakage is more of a clear yellow than the thick purplish brownish discharge I have seen with that (but maybe that was late stage?). Anyways obviously she should not have a uterus anymore so this that would normally rule out pyometra but I have heard of "stump" pyometra. Otherwise she is acting normal except for licking herself constantly and peeing in small amounts alot though she has done this since we got her (which would make me think bladder infection but it just smells so bad and so similar). Do you think I am overeacting and should give it a couple more days or should I bring her to Dr. Choi right away?
I think that its so smelly is concerning. Can you call and speak to Dr. Choi and ask if you need to bring her in right away?
If it were me and I couldn't call to ask I'd probably bring her in due to the smell factor. Discharge is bothersome but smelly discharge indicates a larger problem I think.

I would also go to the vet, especially since she was spayed not long ago. It could actually be linked to the spaying (infection, reaction, etc.).

Do you know what infected anal gland smells like? I saw Dr. Eom use a needle to extract the infection from a cyst in the anal gland. If there's a cyst, it could rupture like a pimple and I'm wondering if it's possible to rupture inside and be leaking out that way.
We can all speculate, but with an infection, I'd take her right away. Plz let us know what he says. Hope she's better soon.:(

Yes I have assisted a vet during a surgical removal of a severely infected anal glad. It didn't smell like that.
Thank you everyone for your concern and help!
The smell has completely gone away and now I am wondering if perhaps when I walked her and she sat down in something discusting (like something wet and rotting..because it had that sort of decayed/infected biological smell) and it just apeared like it was leakage. I am very relieved! I feel abit silly though. I will keep a close eye on her to see if any signs of this return.
Now I just have to work with her behavioral issues. She is very attached to my husband but sometimes tries to bite me when I pick her up. She has pretty bad toy aggression as well. Oh and when I bring her back to Dr. Pet next weekend I am going to ask about her intermittent limping on her left hind leg. Dr. Choi never mentioned it or her having a luxating patella...I would check her knee cap for movement myself but she tries to bite me if I touch her leg.

#1.....The smell has completely gone away and now I am wondering if perhaps when I walked her and she sat down in something discusting
#2..... She is very attached to my husband but sometimes tries to bite me when I pick her up.
#3..... I am going to ask about her intermittent limping on her left hind leg.
#4..... she tries to bite me if I touch her leg.
#1_That sounds good.
#2_That sounds bad.
#3_Maybe check for a thorn in her foot? Has she seen a groomer?
#4_That might make it difficult. But that may be why she tries to bite.
Abuse could have injured it too. Maggie, my blind cocker was starting to bite when I got her. She was so afraid of everyone and now still growls at a man's voice. She attached to me after the first 15 minutes at the old Daejeon Shelter and she would never go with anyone else.
She's all wiggles and happiness with me but one time I took her back to the shelter to meet everyone again and she cringed the whole time and was scared.
Another time, I was playing the video of the dogs barking at the Daejeon shelter and she let out with a low growl like I'd never heard before. (A Jindo had bit her severely while at the shelter.)
The abuse these poor dogs go through before we get them is tragic.

My husband and I are concerned about her biting me as well. The only time she tried to bite him is if he touches her tail. I am pretty sure someone in th epast must have yanked her hard by her tail because it really freaks her out. She is super good about letting you touch her ears/head/face/mouth. She seems uncomfortable with being picked up and occasionally snaps..But there is no warning.
She does not continue to be aggressive when you scold her. But when she is aggressive it is very clear and sudden. There is no stiffening up or warnign growl. Like I can NOT put a harness on her as she growl and puts my entire forearm in her mouth. I have switched her to a collar which she doesn't mind at all.
I have checked out her foot but couldn't find anything. But its hard to tell. She seems much more upset about being touched around her knee and her hind end than her foot. The limping has been intermittent since the day my husband brought her home. And it is weird because she will do it one minute and then be diving off the couch, running at full speed, and playing tug of war on that leg the next minute.
I am sure she has withstood some kind of abuse. Heck I was walking both my dogs yesterday and some guy standing in a doorway kicked her! I was furious but he ran inside and shut the door before I could say anything.
We will continue to work on training her..but we are both concerned about her temperment. We had asked many times if she had any aggressive tendencies and was told no and that she would be ok around children. She actually literally attacked me the first time I met her. I was truly shocked. What concerns me the most is sometimes she bites out of no where and there is no warning at all. My other dog was abused and took many years of training not to get him to bite...He will still bite strangers on ocassion. We wanted our second dog not to have any biting issues because we always have to be careful with our first dog. I am worried to have 2 dogs that bite. It is hard to watch and perfectly control 2 dogs when I walk them. It was hard enough with one.

Maybe she does have luxating patella and is aggravating it by too much jumping. Although my yorky has a mild case and never seemed to be bothered by running up and down the stairs.
The kicking thing....there are several posts on here complaining about people doing that in Korea. I was generally lucky there, but people would give various reactions in elevators. Since I've been home, I've never had any bad public reactions at all toward my dogs.

I have seen dogs being picked up by their tails in videos of meat markets. It's a shame the way they are handled everywhere.
Here's a dog that looks like both of yours again. http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/popup/?cl=16294181
