Hello!
My name is Kelly, i'm from the US and now live in Daegu in the Song-Hyun area. I love all animals and have lots of experience with cats (and birds) and am willing to be a foster parent to a small animal needing an immediate home. I would love to adopt but i'm not willing to give my pet up after a year here so I think fostering is a great option. I have a small apartment but it's spacious enough for a cat and I have the time to spend with one. Feel free to call or email me with ideas or needy animals - I plan on stopping by the shelter as soon as I find out how to get there!
If there's a better place on the site to post this please let me know.
My number is 010-5108-3378 or you can email me at Kellyraeh@hotmail.com
Thanks!
Fostering is great. If you decide you do want to adopt, there are many cheap options for your pet to go back with you to the states. My dog goes with me for quite cheap (under $200 last time). Anyway, there are a lot of fostering options. Check the front page of this website. I am sure Annie, Karen, or Tim would be happy to hook you up. :)

Hi Kelly,
I'm so happy that you want to foster. Tim or Annie are the best people to contact, they always have cats and dogs (all sizes) who need temporary homes and TLC. Their contact info is here: http://www.lonelylifetime.com/contact/ They'll be overjoyed to hear from you, I guarantee.
Ryan's right, though, it's not expensive or complicated to take a pet back to North America if you decide to adopt. That said, I still vote for fostering because you can help so many more little critters that way.
Nice to have you on the site!

Hi guys!
Thanks for the information. I still don't think traveling with a pet is a great idea as I am from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and most airlines won't let pets travel if it is expected to be under or over a certain temperature and we have some of the coldest temperatures in the US up right under Canada where i'm from. I will contact Tim or Annie soon!
Thanks again
actually, I am from really near to where you are from (Northern Wisconsin). Yes, some airlines have policies, but also there are animal shipment carriers that take animals year round, and they are quite cheap also. If you get a cat, you can also take it on with you as carry on on most airlines. Anyway, welcome, and glad you can foster some sweet pootie-tats!

I contacted Annie (also Tim but i think the call disconnected) and was able to set up a plan to go to Daejon this weekend to get a cat to foster. I am new to Daegu (to all of Korea actually) and still very unfamiliar with transporation. Can anyone tell me how to get to Daejeon by bus? I don't even know where the bus station is here in Daegu. Thanks!

Hi there,
That's great news! I'm so glad it worked out.
There are 5 bus stations in Daegu (I learned the hard way), and I think only one of them goes to Daejeon. It is much easier (and quicker) to get there by train. I do believe there are two train stations as well, but they are a stop away from each other on the metro line. I can't remember which one goes to Daejeon. The KTX gets there in 40 minutes, it's more expensive but not extremely so for the speed advantage, in my view. There are cheaper trains that take a little longer, too.
Another reason for promoting the train system is that animals aren't allowed on the bus and, as far as I've heard, often get forced to travel beneath with the luggage :(
Anyway, here's a link to the KTX webpage:
http://www.lifeinkorea.com/Information/Trans/ktx.cfm
And the regular train:

Have a good trip!

Unfortunately, the kitten I wanted her to foster died of parvo along with another one this morning (the other one died 2 days ago).
They were at one of the pounds we deal with, so I am afraid everyone is sick there....
One kitty might be adopted, but will get him to Kelly if not.

That's really sad, Annie. Doubtless there will be more cats to choose from soon, though :(

Hello,
I didn't end up going as apparently there are no cats in need. Does anyone know how to contact KAPS here in Daegu? I have gone there but they were closed at the time and I even called the number but no one spoke English. I would like to do some volunteering there and possibly fostering if it is needed.
Thanks
Kelly

Hi there,
KAPS doesn't believe in fostering since some fosterers lost a dog and
some cats. You can volunteer for sure ,here is the link where you can
reach the manager. By email is best.
She can give you all info you need.

Hi Kelly,
I have a friend named Ellie who was recently hit by a car (hit and run...the jerk did not stop) and she is in the hospital at the moment with a fractured hip. Ellie is basically bed ridden and in the hospital until the end of February. She has lost her job and her apartment and needs help with the cats. She actually has two cats but we are just trying to start with the one at the moment.
Ellie actually just recently adopted one of two kittens that I had found outside. The kitten's name is Autumn (aka Chazzy) and was adopted by Ellie through this board not too long ago.
Her number is (010)8688-3034
My number is 041-533-3558 or 010-5099-7701.
I (we) really hope to hear from you soon.
Jess
