Animal Name : Gizmo
City/Location : Mannyeong dong, Daejeon
Breed : Shih-tzu
Sex : F
Spayed / Neutered : ??
Age : 1-2 yrs
Size : 4kgs
Health status:
Heartworm--negative
Vaccinations--will do DHPPL after observing
Underweight from hunger. Should fill out soon.
Glaucoma in her rt eye. Will probably require the eye injections.

Behaviour/Personality : Very very scared. Looking for protection. She was trying to bite us at first, but people/kids had been chasing her a while. At Africa she calmed down a lot and let us pet her. When another dog jumped her in the lobby, she came running for me to protect her. Then she made her way into the examining room and curled up at the technician's feet under the chair. She's definitely been a real home body and I think will make a cuddly, loyal pet for anyone she trusts. Within minutes she went from angry/scared to wanting to be very close to someone.

Rescue story : Wes and I rescued this little girl in Mannyeong dong this evening behind Song Lok Su apt/villa area. I was walking home when I saw kids chasing her and asked. I thought she was theirs but the grandmother said no so I joined the chase.

She was heading to my apt so I ran with her, blocking the cars and scooters while calling Wes to bring a carrier quick. She was trying to bite. She ran back toward the kids and they managed to get her in a box then we put her in Wes' carrier. The kids really looked concerned and were happy we got her.

I took her to Africa for basic checks and she'll be going to the Daejeon shelter unless she gets a sponsor to cover her treatments and further vaccinations or someone willing to foster/adopt her.

Adoption fee: Not up for adoption yet until we look for her owner and give her some time to calm down. But anyone wanting to meet her can check with Africa vet and wait it out 10 days. The mandatory 50,000 won will go to Africa Vet for her glaucoma/other treatments.

She's really sweet. Have you put up any posters around Mannyeon-dong or asked the vet to check for a microchip?

Oh dear...totally forgot the microchip! Will call tomorrow. Thanks!

I just got her so I was going to go somewhere to do some posters from my pictures. I'll put them at various vets and around this neighborhood where we picked her up.

Carrying her back to the apt, Wes stopped at several convenient stores and asked if they'd ever seen her. No one had.

This is the first "off-the-street" rescue I've made so I'm open to any suggestions as to what we can do to find her owners.

Has Gizmo found a home?

Has Gizmo found a home?

Unfortunately, no. She had glaucoma in one eye and developed it in the other, leaving her blind, and she was euthanized. We couldn't do anything since she didn't have a sponsor. =<

That is heartbreaking.
