Hi my name is Bebe and I cant believe that I actually agreed to foster! OF COURSE I DONT WANT TO GIVE THE LITTLE FELLOW UP!!!

I have a great 3 year old tabby mix cat named Yang Yang. He was rescued from a family who tied him up! (yep he is a cat!!!!)
Anyway the very kind people at Pet Toy animal Clinic have been looking after him for 2 years where he had 3 operations on his leg to repair damage from being tied up! He was always have some damage but it adds to his caracter!
He became very withdrawn at the clinic and thats how I came to foster him.

From the moment I set eyes apon him he became the love of my life!!! (hehe I am the crazy cat lady!!!)
The problem is I have only had Yang Yang for 2 weeks and have just signed a new contract for another year here (sooo sounds great!!)

Im already thinking about when I leave or have to give him up!! so what the hell I have decided to look at taking him home to the UK!
I know that there is quarentine which is not a good idea for yang yang as he prefers to be in a 1 animal family and I believe that 6 months would stress him out too much! So I have had a read and am no expert but think I can travel to Japan for 6 months where yang yang can get in without any issue. Stay in japan for 6 months then fly off to England with no quarentine! Is this right???
There were a list of other countries which are part of the PETS thing the passport scheme! Most Europian countries and several elsewhere in the world. Any one any better ideas of how I can keep Yang Yang in a forever home without staying in korea forever (as much as I love it!) or giving Yang Yang away????
Thanks for reading!!!
Bebe

I have no idea, but best of luck. My friend didn't have to do quarantine her cat when she returned to the US

Yes, you can do that - so long as you can get into Japan with no problems. ;) However, you will have to get Yang Yang microchipped and vaccinated against rabies (even if he's already had it done) in Japan. There is a checklist at:

Hey, someone PM'ed me about doing the same thing with their dog. So if you want, I'll get you two together and you can discuss how to avoid the quarantine in the UK. She also thinks she's crazy but I told her NOT !!!!! It's 6 months compared to a lifetime. But Japan sounds great.

BTW, Mango Mom sends several dogs to Japan. She has another shipment of Shih-tzu's going as soon as the testing is over. I'm wondering, just an idea, if she could put you in touch with the lady there and maybe the lady would board them for the 6 months. It would be a home. Better than quarantine if you can't afford to go and stay.

There's always the option of going there for a teaching job. My friend did, but she didn't like it. Be careful and get a reference.

Good luck, and I love it when this happens.

That sounds right, you can also go to the U.S or Canada, there is no quarantine for animals that have lived in those countries either. Just A LOT of paper work. It is doable though if you really want to. I wouldn't suggest the 6 month quarintine-it is just to hard on the animal.

If you go to the US, you have to be careful and check with the county you're in. If there's been a case of rabies recently (not sure of the time, but it's like a month or 2) then you cannot take the animal to any country. I read that when I was home last time, and it scared me a little to call about it because I was on my way back here. But it was ok.

Does that ever happen here? I mean, if there's a reported case of rabies, then maybe you can't take the dog home? (I'm a worry-wort.)

Hi there,
I'm a fellow Brit and I have been put off the idea of keeping a pet here (eventhough I really want one!!!) for this reason. However, I've done some digging and I've found that quaranteen (excuse spelling!) is UP TO six months. If all of your paper work is in order and it's been at least six months from the time of having your pet micro-chipped and vacinated, the lenght of time spent in Qtn. can be anywhere from 2 weeks to six months. Have you called the helpline number and asked them about it? I'm not sure if they can give any kind of guarentee but it's definitely worth a shot before you think abotu spending six months somewhere.
Personally, I think it's stupid that we can take a dog home from Japan, Malaysia and a host of other Asian countries without ANY problem or Qtn. period.... so why not Korea? It drives me insane. I want to adopt a cat so much and eventhough I plan on being here for another couple of years, I'm just put off because it's so difficult to get it home. Please keep me posted with your journey.
Best,
Shelley.

actually since i posted this i have flown my cat back to the uk!
it is always 6 months quarentine as this is not a rabies free country!
the only way around this is to take your animal to canada for 6 months and have vacines and testing done there and apply for a pet passport! Canada is seen as rabies free and you can take pets there easily from here!
its ost alot of money but hey my at is worth it!
ive given him a better life and i an visit in quarentine just as soon as i fly back to the UK on Monday!
if you do decide to get an animal and want more info on UK laws let me know!

Besides Canada and Japan, you can also take your dog into the EU, get a pet passport and travel around for 6 months, then take him directly into the UK. This would actually be cheaper than quarantine with the added bonus of seeing everything in Europe along the way. And the trains and restaurants are pet-friendly.

i do not pretend to be an expert on getting your animals to the UK but i do know that there is a lot of missleading information on it!
All i can do is share what i found out but i am happy to share with anyone!

Is that true about U.S.A. to UK = no quarantine? That would be great and maybe we could find a nice foster/boarder situation here.

its true that they can go from canada to uk no quarrentine but not the US as its not seen as rabies free!
also they update the list of countries all the time so it could happen that your in canada for 5 months then there is a case of rabies in canada and then canada isnt on the UK safe list any more!
You would have to apply for a PETS passport in canada which takes 6 months to do from start to finish in order to be allowed in the UK without quarrentine.
The other thing is quarrentine is always 6 months they do not shorten it if you have some paper work it is just a set 6 months which if your animal gets sick while there it can be extended for longer.
