Hello!

I currently live in Tongyeong-(somewhat near to Busan) and think that I will be going to Daegu next weekend for the Lunar Holiday and would like to visit/volunteer at the KAPS shelter.

Does anyone have experience or information on how to get there and their hours? I am having trouble accessing their website.

Thanks!

Christine

Hi Christine,

Sorry this reply is late :( I hope you were able to get in touch with KAPS and make your trip this weekend.

The contact info at the bottom of the KAPS website (http://koreananimals.or.kr/english/) says:

1593-19 Daemyoung-10dong, Nam-Gu Daegu City, South Korea 705-815
Tel: 82-53-622-3588. Fax: 82-53-656-3587
KOREAN ANIMAL PROTECTION SOCIETY 고유번호 : 514-82-05801
대표자 : Sunnan Kum

It's close to a subway stop, so it's easy to get there from the train station and it's not too far from one of Daegu's (many, many) bus stations, if I recall. However, the sign is not big so it's a bit hard to find the first time. Also, the noise factor makes it hard for people inside the shelter to hear visitors knocking, so it's pretty much mandatory for you to call ahead to let them know you're coming. Phoning is more effective than email as Sunnan is always busy.

Although it's a bit dated, there is more info about volunteering at KAPS here (http://www.animalrescuekorea.org/forums/showthread.php?p=9490). If you do manage to get there soon and you find out who (if anyone) is coordinating volunteer trips there now that Emma has left Korea, I'd love to update the other thread.

Thanks, and good luck!
