Here's a story about the Daejeon shelter from the Korea Herald 2/19/2007, the one before the story about the extension. Matt sent a copy and gave permission to post it. (Thanks Matt!)

This is good. This is real good. Media exposure will definitely help highlight the problems caused my pets being treated as "lifestyle products".

Check out these three great articles by Eileen Cahill published in the Korea Herald all wrapped into 1 PDF file, attached! (Thanks Matt for granting permission to crosspost).

"Perseverance pays off for dog lovers" discusses the Daejeon and Ilsan shelters, two other articles discuss cat rescue and Nabiya cat shelter as well as the "no-kill" movement.

Outside Korea, Encyclopedia Britannica's Advocacy for Animals recently published "The South Korean Animal Welfare Movement Takes Root. (http://advocacy.britannica.com/blog/advocacy/2008/11/712/)" Lots of other animal stories of interest on their site:

Here is another article by Eileen Cahill from January 7th, 2009 which I neglected to post earlier :( Sorry! This one is entitled "The 'Daejeon 150' down to the 'Asan 70'".

Thanks again to Eileen and also to the Korea Herald for giving permission to crosspost.

Good news: a reporter from the Korea Herald came up to the Asan shelter with ARK volunteers one Saturday in January. He did a great piece on the Asan shelter, with mention of Josh, LC, Natalie & Lee! How great is that? And it's not a rhetorical question, because there is an answer, which is: it's very great--possibly greater than kimbap (but, unfortunately, not greater than kimchi kimbap--there is nothing greater than that, alas)

Thanks to Paddy - the reporter - who came up with us (and even broke up a dog fight).

Ha, ha, now you tell me! I watched all sorts of Korean news before finding you :D

Anyway, you guys are awesome! Do you always get around 20 volunteers, or was that an exceptional day. Wow, I'm impressed!

That was a great segment. To bad they can't do a spot every week or day on a pet that needs a home. Can't wait to go to the shelter and help out.
