A few months ago a beautiful cat ran past me in Wolpyeong Dong, Daejeon. I noticed the colours, but this cat was going fast and I didn't think to chase him. Well, a couple weeks ago I was in the same neighbourhood, and happened to have my camera. I saw a construction lot and thought I'd peek inside to see if they had a chained up dog who might need help... nope, but I saw the gorgeous cat again (or his twin)! (I say "he" only because he was so rotund and handsome, actually I have no idea.)

My first question is:

How would I go about catching this cat to either 1) neuter and then return him to his territory or 2) find a good home for him?

And secondly,

How can you tell if a cat was/ can be domesticated or if he/she is too feral to be a housepet? I imagine every cat entering a house would be stressed and cry a lot at first, how do you know if they can be tamed?

Here are the photos of the beauty. I love his face and his colours, he is so gorgeous I wish he didn't have to live outside!!!

In the lot (click to enlarge, then you can see him between the gates):

Karen,

While it may be tempting to take in strays, unless they are newborn (up to maybe 6 weeks), they won't adapt to a home environment.

Catching them to be spayed/neutered is a great idea, but you would need the proper traps.

Luckily, cats are great survivors, and can better manage outdoors than dogs.

I took in a stray that was approx. 3 to 4 months old and he took to the whole indoor living thing in no time at all.

However, that pretty boy looks old. His face is adorable!!!!!!

Sorry, have no idea on how to catch a kitty cat.

Yes, he looks like a full grown up. He didn't notice me taking pictures, I couldn't get through the gate to see what would happen if I approached him. Maybe if he was a rejected pet and had lived indoors at one time he would be approachable? I have no idea. Can abandoned housecats learn to be housecats again, or do they hate people forever after that? I don't get the impression that cats are as forgiving as dogs...

Yes, it's good to keep in mind that cats can survive on their own. He sure doesn't look like he's starving or anything...

In any case, I guess I have to go back to that area and see if I can find him again, and bring some cat food with me to see if he will even come near me.
