Hello-

I adopted two cats off of this board back in April. We have had problems with them urinating on beds ever since. Actually, one of them quit when she was spayed, but the other one (also spayed) has not.

We have two litter boxes, and her favorite place to pee is on my bed, about 5 feet away (through a doorway). The litter boxes are in a private area. Her food is in another room. The boxes are cleaned every day. I tried Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract Litter (the "wonder" litter). I have kept her enclosed in my large bathroom for weeks on end, slowly letting her back out into the house (to train her to always use the box) but she just goes right back to peeing on beds. She doesn't pee on carpets or hard floors or anything else...just on beds. I use Science Diet food. I haven't seen any blood in the urine at all.

She was on antibiotics after she was spayed, which should have taken care of any infection she might have had. I called our vet AGAIN, but they can't even see her until Oct. 15.

Please, what else can I do? I am ready to find a new home for her, but I hate to burden someone else with these problems. I can't deal with them anymore, however.

Any advice is welcome. Any potential adoptive families are also welcome. Thanks.

Cats are the cleanest animals . There is always a reason why they won't do it
in the litterbox . Blood in the urine you cannot always see with bare eyes . I suggest
take your cats to the vet for kidney test .Both cats .
Are they healthy then try this ,they sell it online at Amazon

You will be amazed by the results . Though only when you are sure there is no medical
problem .

What kind of sand do you use ?

Good luck !

I use Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract Litter. Worked great for about a month, but now they are back to urinating in the beds again. I just caught the other one at it a few minutes ago...I had thought it was just the one cat, but now I know it was both. I used the booklet that came with the litter, and still it didn't work...this is a guaranteed product.

I think perhaps these cats lived outdoors for too long before I got them. I have read about urinary tract infections in cats, and they don't have the classic symptoms...being in pain when urinating, going on hard cool surfaces, etc.

I have been dealing with cleaning bedding (the futons are a huge problem when they get wet) for five months now, and I don't think I can take any more. I am going to list the cats once again on the adoption board. Perhaps someone with more patience than me can take them. Like I said, our vet can't see them until Oct. 15, and I am not sure I can last that long.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I am sorry you have to go through this , were these cats rescued from the
street as adults ? I am Dutch and have daily contact with people online .
The product i recommended is used by MANY people as a great succes . If
they are healthy , you have 2 dominant cats in the house and that product
is helping calming down as well . Once they use the litterbox , you will
have so much pleasure .
Please keep trying before you put them up for adoption .

Also , can't you go to another vet ? I would not choose for a vet who is not
available for my pets every day .
Take care !

Hi there!
just to know, how old are the cats?
Are they females, males, or female and male?
What was the background story when you adopted them?
We'll try to help out!

Hi! These are a mother and daughter pair. The baby is about 3/4 grown...the vet was guessing 8-9 months old. The mother looked young enough for this to be her first litter, so probably less than 2 years old.

Both cats are at the vet now waiting urinalysis, although I don't think the vet really expects to find anything. I am glad they fit me in.

Here is the link on this board where I first found the cats: http://www.lonelylifetime.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=16

Both settled in nicely with us, especially the mother. The kitten (very rambunctious, as most kittens are!) has taken longer to come around, but is getting there. Both will sleep with me during the night and both meow and walk up to me for attention. They certainly don't act like wild cats.

I'll check in again when the vet calls back. Thanks for the help.

I'm wondering if it could be a territorial issue. My roommate years ago had a male cat and his girlfriend who lived with us for a while also did. When the two males were together in the house, one of them often peed all over my other roommate's laundry on the floor (I admit I thought it was funny at the time, but only because it wasn't my stuff).

Anyway, the problem only occurred when the two cats were living in the same apartment. They were both males about the same age.

I have no idea if mother/daughter could have the same kind of issue, but it might be something to research. Here's one good website for pet related info: http://www.peteducation.com/index.cfm?cls=1

Good luck. It sounds like a very frustrating problem. I hope the vet check turns out good and maybe he can suggest a simple way to solve this.
