Description:

April 11th: Big Russ has big news --- he has finally made it to his adoptive home in Germany! From Russ's new mom:
"We are happy to announce that on April, 7th, Russ, former Asan shelter dog, arrived in Germany and joined our family.
Today is our second day together. You can find the results here: 1) husband - confused, 2) Semi - hopes it's not forever, 3) Berry - confused, 4) Peter The Rabbit - not aware of Russ's existence, 5) Sofia - busy crate training, house training, leash training, etc., 6) Russ - happy."

Congratulations, Russ! You deserve this happy ending! BIG thank you to Russ's new family --- both human and canine.

April 3rd: Russ is still at the training center and loving life, as usual! Hopefully within the next few weeks I will have some exciting updates regarding Russ, so please stay tuned! This boy has adventures on the horizon --- I can feel it!!!

March 2nd: We are still looking for a courier for Russ going from Incheon to ANY airport in Germany! ALL arrangements, costs, and paperwork will be taken care of; we just need someone willing to bring Russ along on their journey! If you or anyone you know will be traveling to Germany soon, please consider helping Russ get to his forever home!

February 4th: Things are going very well for Russ at the training center. ****We are now actively searching for someone traveling from Incheon to Germany (any airport) AFTER March 8th who would be willing to act as a courier for Russ. If you or anyone you know could possibly help bring this amazing boy to his new adoptive home, please don't hesitate to contact me at [email protected].****

January 13th: I visited Russ at the training center, and he looks as happy as ever! His coat is shiny and bright, and he never stops smiling or wagging his tail. I am so happy for this big bear! He has learned to 'sit' and is undergoing clicker training. Russ is VERY motivated by treats, and gives his trainer undivided attention because of this. ;)

December 30th: Russ continues to thrive at the training center! I took my foster dog Jack to meet him on Friday and the two boys had a blast running around and wrestling with each other. Russ looks fantastic; he has lost some weight and his coat is glossy and beautiful. I am so happy for Russ and proud of how well he is doing. Good boy Russ!

December 24th: Russ is doing so well at the training center. He is learning some basic commands, and having a great time running around and playing with other dogs. It is so nice to see Russ so happy and carefree: it is the first time in his life that he's been able to act like a real dog. I love this silly boy and I hope that he will find his perfect home soon!

December 9th: Russ has been moved from Asan Shelter to a training facility in Northern Seoul. He will be learning basic manners such as sit, stay, and down, and also he will be able to socialize with lots of other dogs and people! I will be visiting Russ every Saturday while he is staying there, and will be sure to update his profile with plenty of pictures and videos! I am so happy that for at least this month, Russ will have somewhere warm and comfortable to sleep.

November 11th: Russ's cage is so cold and wet and full of muck. This big cuddly baby really needs a warm place to stay this winter. Nothing seems to dampen his happy demeanor though; Russ is all smiles and 100% love every time someone comes to visit him!

November 3rd: Check out Russ and some of his friends in this video of Asan Shelter dogs who are in desperate need of homes:

October 13th: Russ received heartworm prevention this weekend to make sure he remains healthy and adoptable! :)

October 6th: Big bear Russ is so loving and sweet! I can't believe nobody has scooped up this gem of a dog. He is waiting to find someone that loves to cuddle, go for walks, and share their snacks. If you are interested in this goofy guy, please contact me at [email protected]!

September 22nd: Everyone who meets Russ instantly falls in love --- and how could they not? He is simply wonderful.

September 15th: Russ is amazing! Russ is happy! Russ is soft, fuzzy, and adorable! Russ is in need of a forever home! Please, please, PLEASE do yourself a favor and come meet this dog at Asan Shelter! He is worth the trip!

September 1st: Russ is finished his heartworm treatment and ready for his forever home. He really is like a bumbling, goofy bear. He loves people and wants nothing more than a home and family to call his own.

August 7th: Still waiting to hear whether Russ is heart worm free or not. I can't wait for him to beat this nasty disease so he can go for walks, play, and simply enjoy being a dog! Even though Russ has been cooped up in his cage for the past few months, it hasn't tarnished his wonderful spirit and energy. He is such a sweet teddy-bear, anyone would be lucky to have a dog like him.

July 14th: Hoping for some good news soon! The sooner Russ tests negative for heartworm, the sooner he can get out of his cage and go for a nice, long walk! Russ had a great appetite today and gobbled up his food in no time. He is so friendly and happy, despite his circumstances. I love this big teddy bear, and you will too!~

June 24th: Russ received his FINAL heartworm treatment injection today! He was in good spirits and I can't wait for this sweet boy to receive a clean bill of health!~ Only a little while longer, buddy!

June 16th: Russ is still doing well and hopefully will soon test negative for heartworm! He really hates being stuck in his cage, and is really happy when people stop to say hello. Russ is just a big teddy bear! He loves people and it would be really great for him to have somewhere to go after his treatment is complete. Please consider Russ!

May 27th: I checked on Russ today and he seems to be doing fine since getting his first heartworm treatment injection. He was wagging his tail and in good spirits. Please wish this special dog a speedy recovery and a forever family!~ <3

May 20th: Russ is heartworm positive and it would be great if he could find a foster home to undergo treatment in. If you think you can open up your home to this lovable guy, please contact me here. Russ needs you!

May13th: Russ had a little walk around today. He LOVES getting out of his cage and saying hello to everyone, but he is reluctant to wander too far from his comfort zone. However, he has shown tremendous progress since the first time I met him, in terms of being comfortable with people and wanting lots of attention. :)

May 4th: Russ seems to be recovering well from his surgery, but his life at Asan is lonely. Russ would love to find that special someone to give him the friend he deserves!

April 28th: Some bad news for Russ this week: he has tested positive for heart worm. He is scheduled to start his treatment sometime in May, so please keep Russ in your thoughts and wish him the best of luck! Of course, it would be great if Russ could find a foster or forever home where he could undergo treatment in a comfortable, stress-free place. Please don't overlook this one: he is special.

April 19th: The bandage is off Russ's paw, and although his foot will be permanently deformed, he has no trouble getting around and really enjoys walking. He is so sweet and goofy!! He doesn't seem to be bothered by other dogs, and is mostly interested in sniffing and exploring. If you think you can give this silly boy a foster or forever home, please contact me at [email protected].

April 1st: Russ was very excited and full of energy today. His paw is no longer bandaged, but I noticed there is still a large gash across the top of his foot. I didn't take him out because I'm not sure if he should walk a lot, but I could tell he really wanted to get out of his cage and run around. He is a young guy with a lot of energy; it would be great if he could find an active family to take him hiking or running. He's a special guy.

Russ came to Asan shelter from the city pound at the end of February. He has an injury to his back paw: Mr. Park told me that it was run over by a car. It's bandaged and should be healed in about a month or so. He's also got some scabbing on the top of his nose, but I'm not sure what it's from.

Russ is very young, not much more than a year old, if that. He is very, very friendly, and was super eager to get out of his cage for a walk. Unfortunately, we couldn't let curious Russ go too far because of his injured paw. He is really friendly and loved being pet and played with. Russ is so young and the sooner he can leave the shelter, the better. He is a really beautiful black Jindo, which are not very common. He's a special guy who deserves a special home.

If you are interested in Russ, please fill out the adoption application and email it to me at [email protected]. Don't keep Russ waiting!`

Russ: Aug. 26, 2012

He started coughing a bit when he was excited, so he may still be dealing with the heartworm...

Russ got a little time out of his cage yesterday and was loving every minute of it!~~

I had a great time with Russ on Saturday. He is an easy dog to fall in love with. Great energy and so friendly... He deserves to find a wonderful new home!

By gosh Russ how adorable you are! Russ and I had a fun playtime today and of course shared many teddy bear cuddles. Your antics always crack me up! I know there has to be a best friend for Russ out there! For now he's every volunteer's best friend but he deserves a special someone or family to call his own! Soon Russ, soon.

Happy Halloween from big bad Russ!

Russ continues to be a shelter favorite because of his infectious spirit and friendly personality.
I was only able to spend a little time with Russ last weekend (Nov. 11) and feed him some hard boiled eggs and other treats. However, he did get out for a nice walk and some exercise thanks to some great volunteers (Liz and Jon) at the shelter.

Please consider fostering or adopting this sweet animal before the cold and windy weather really sets in.

Russ is so.......smart. :)

When will Russ be finished his time at the training center?

allisondyoung's picture

Russ will spend one more month at the training center, and if all goes smoothly, will be heading to Germany in March. :)

BGuy's picture

Nice! So then he's no longer available for fostering?

allisondyoung's picture

Well, if we could find a great foster home for him, it would be nice to give him some 'home-life' experience before sending him to his adopters. Why, are you interested? ;) Email me at [email protected] if you'd like to chat about him or have any questions!

One month ago, on November, 26th, 2013, Russ crossed over the Rainbow bridge.
In the end of August our angel was diagnosed with lymphoma.
It is so unfair.

We miss him every minute.

marlajoy's picture

Aw, I'm so sorry to hear that, Sofia. He was still so young, wasn't he? I'm happy to know he passed away feeling loved. :)

dbis's picture

Utterly heartbroken.

I can't stop crying...

Rest in peace my dear dear Russ. I'll forever treasure our times together. I'm so happy you got to experience the love of an amazing family before your time came.

Thank you Sofia for sharing your beautiful tribute to him. He looks stunning. It's so unfair.

My thoughts are with you all.
