Adoption Listing Rules

By posting an adoption listing on ARK, you agree to the rules below. Additional information must be provided if you are listing your pet for adoption or listing a found animal.

General Rules

  1. This Site is for Rescue

Listings by commercial breeders, pet shops, and guardians who choose not to spay/neuter are not accepted.

  2. Number of Listings

Create only one listing per animal. List only animals who must be adopted together (ie. bonded pairs) together in one profile.

  3. Updating

Update the listing at least once a month to prevent it from expiring. Listings with no updates in 30 days will expire automatically.

  4. Adoption / Foster Status

Change the adoption status of your listing to "Adopted" once an adoptive home is found; uncheck the "For Foster" box if the animal no longer needs a foster home.

  5. Adoption Fees

Adoption fees are mandatory (see below). "Free pet" ads are not accepted.

  6. Screening

Screening potential adopters is your responsibility. Ask all persons interested in adopting the animals you list to fill an adoption application form and send it to you (or a volunteer you work with) for consideration.

  7. Crossposting

Crossposting to or from other websites is accepted if you are the listing author, or with permission from the author and photographer to crosspost.

* See Posting Tips for instructions on how to update, remove a listing, etc.

Adoption Fees

  1. Adoption fees are mandatory.
  2. Adoption fees are paid by the adopter directly to the caregiver.
  3. Animal Rescue Korea does not collect adoption fees or accept donations.
  4. If you are uncomfortable accepting an adoption fee, donate the adoption fee to a Korean animal shelter to support animal rescue.
  5. Minimum adoption fees per animal are:
    • Dogs and puppies: W50,000
    • Cats and kittens: W50,000
    • Rabbits: W20,000
    • Small animals: W10,000

Before Rehoming a Stray

  1. Try to find the owner for at least 10 days before creating an adoption listing on ARK.
  2. Read the Helping a Stray page for tips on what to do.
  3. Explain in your adoption listing what measures were taken to locate the owner of a lost pet.

Before Putting Your Pet Up For Adoption

Adoption is a lifelong commitment. However, when a serious life crisis occurs it may become difficult to fulfill your commitment. Sometimes the right solution can't be found, but we prefer to first help look for solutions that can keep families together.

For that reason, adoption listings for personal pets will not be accepted on ARK unless the following conditions are met:

  1. You first try to resolve the issues causing you to give up your pet. Please consider all possible solutions before deciding to place your companion into a new home.
  2. You follow all adoption contract obligations and you notify the organization or person from whom you adopted that you cannot keep your pet.
  3. Explain in your adoption listing all of the following:
    • your reason for giving up your pet
    • how you tried to resolve the issues
    • where you adopted your pet from
    • why the shelter / pet store / previous guardian from whom you adopted cannot take this animal back into their care

Listings which do not comply with the rules will be removed

ARK reserves the right to remove adoption listings without notice if the rules above are not followed. Crossposted adoption listings found on other websites without a stated adoption fee will be understood to mean that the author does not agree with ARK's rules about adoption fees and does not intend to charge one. Please contact the site admin if you have any questions.
